I have been to CMU many times, and have never had a problem with students or fans. The only bad fans I have experienced were at Marshall and Ohio State.

This is true, been there several times and had no problem with the fan base either rooting for the Rockets or somebody else playing the Chips. I lived up that way during my service days.

Apparently no one has ever walked thru their south lot (closed end) where their students hang. Twice its been a beer can throwing fest with "Fu$# Ohio!" And "Why thr F would yall waste your time driving up here to get you Di$#s bashed in." To which we replied... "Wow thats an interesting insult." 2013 was worse, and 2015 was a weekday but still was insuferable.

So... wearing UT gear you walked your azz through a tailgate containing no doubt a few drunk students and expected.... to get a date? You found a few predator sharks. That's not hard to do when you're dressed up as bait.

Id punch any Rocket fan in the face who threw beers at opposing fans, idc where it is. Disrespectful. Especially when no one is talking crap. Just walking. I worked for the team both years and had official gear on. Had to change clothes in 2013.
