The Big 12 is no longer a power conference my friend.

The minute Texas and Oklahoma left, so did their P5 status.

Tell that to the other 8 schools. They had no problem getting three schools in the AAC to join. They whistled and Cincy, UCF and Houston jumped in the truck, no questions asked. There is still separation from the Big12 and even the AAC.

Agree. That's a power conference.

But is there a flagship...

In basketball there is a huge flagship... In football a flagship will emerge with time together. One always does. What's going for the Big 12 is their location. They are located in the greatest football recruiting grounds in the country. If Texas A&M and UT are smothered by mediocre seasons in the SEC, the Big 12 will be providing the post season fireworks for the entire state.

RE: The next dominoes (October 13 edition)
I doubt the B12 (the vitamin conference) will have even one team in any CFP (after UT/OU leave) in any year, unless there is a change to include all P5 champs. I don't think that even if if champs get an auto-invite, that their champ will survive the first round. K-state against UGA?

I think that will make the B12 a very marginal P5, and likely as not to get left behind as things evolve.

Don’t let 2017 National Champions UCF see this!!!

All jokes aside, their best bet to get in would be… Cincinnati or Oklahoma State…?

Exactly! Everybody’s all “why would B12 take Memphis and Boise/USF and expand to 14?” And the answer is those are BACKFILLS after ACC/Big10/PAC finish backfilling/expanding.

The dust will take another decade to settle.

Is that why they had to add 3 G5 programs?

Big 12 is definitely still a power conference. It's not as strong as before but all football stadiums will have capacities from 40,000 to around 64,000 people with fan bases to match for the most part. That's a huge step up from G5 conferences.

I don't understand this concept. I've traveled to 11 foreign countries, from tropical paradises to huge metropolises, and to some of the coolest places in the US, and I still LOVE live college football games. It seems like you could do all that cool stuff in Florida during the week, Sunday afternoons, spring and summer Saturdays. I guess it's more about being sucked into a culture early. If FAU keeps up their football success, any students they suck in now can be lifers like those of us who post on this board. They're still fairly new and it will just take time to build p a large fanbase.

Back when they still had Oklahoma and Texas they added G5 TCU and the ACC added Louisville. The three moving up (and Memphis) deserve P5 status. They've put in the money, become consistent winners and will thrive. After 10 years getting that money and prestige they'll be completely able to compete (Cinci already seems to be at that level and UCF was not long ago).

Yeah, everyone is acting like it's just chumps left in the B12. OSU and TCU have regularly been in the Top Ten. Cinci is dominating right now even without P5 advantages and UCF has in the past. WVU has been a power in the past. Houston and Memphis (expected next add) are just a step below. BSU (other expected next add) is similar to Cinci and UCF. Texas is the current biggest name in the B12, but they've been about the 5th best football team over the past decade. OK is the true loss from a competitive standpoint, as they've actually been real Playoff contenders most years.

Oh, FFS, the Big 12 isn’t losing its Power status. The deck chairs are gonna get shuffled around and that will be that. Hopefully, we all end up in better situations for all of us, but that isn’t likely.

It is more of a cultural thing. Growing up in KY, basketball is king and all athletics are heavily promoted because there isn't much else to do. I am sure the dynamic for people growing up in Miami and Boca Raton is different.

I don't agree. Very few teams in Cusa could beat the ones remaining in the Big 12, hence, their P5 status. You can add attendance numbers to that. We Miners would crap a whole cow if we could join that conference but it ain't happening, not even the MW wants us.

My dream is to win the lotto and buy the Florida Panthers. Not a Panthers fan per se but its the most economical chance I have of owning a big4 team.
