Beating USA will put us in a very good spot for a bowl which would be insane

Troy isn't the only team that has struggled in Monroe... here are the 3 previous meetings in Monroe:

10/27/12 - ULM 38 - USA 24
11/5/16 - ULM 42 - USA 35 (OT)
9/28/19 - ULM 30 - USA 17

ULM (Malone Stadium) is actually one of the tougher SBC environments/stadiums to play in. It's not because of hostile crowds, etc, but more of it just sucking the life out of you. Sounds crazy but true. The stadium is old, drab, and INSANELY tall. It's like prison walls. Night games are tough because the lighting is awful in there. Crowd noise is either non-existent or really loud (if anyone is there and if we are actually doing something right). The band rarely plays and the music selection over the PA is terrible. We are used to that environment, but I think opposing teams roll in and get depressed. If we get many new upgrades we may lose our home field "advantage". I've actually heard that coaches of some successful teams warned their players not to get distracted by it. Although Georgia State has never had a problem taking us to the woodshed of Malone.

Let me do some defending here...when Malone Stadium was completed in 1978 it was considered one of the most modern medium-sized stadiums in the country. Let me know what the opinion is of today's modern stadiums 43 years from now, okay? ULM is not getting a new stadium anytime soon so this is what we have to deal with. Crowd noise was described correctly. The band rarely plays because the stadium announcer keeps playing bad rap songs LOUD over the PA during breaks which is weird since the announcer is an alumnus of the band. I'll go along with the rest of your comments.

I love Malone and have no problems with its age or design. The issue, and it is always discussed on our board, is that it hasn't really had any updates since 1978. It is drab and the lighting is dark. Its like a house built in the 70s that hasn't been remodeled. Good bones, but could do without the shag carpet and wood paneling. That being said, I think it makes it a tough place for opposing teams to play.

We are under no delusions.

Fully expect to get stAte’s best.

Your description of Malone is the best I've read. I'll add on that just being in Monroe could have an effect on teams too, the city as a whole is pretty depressing. Not to mention the mill smell if you're not used to it.

RE: Week 8 Sunbelt Projections
I actually think the PA announcer or whoever runs the music is doing a great job this year. They are mixing it up with a lot of classic rock, current songs, and “Boogie Night”. It has been really good. By the way, good to see more Warhawk fans on this board.
