UTEP is Hosed
Travel costs will kill them in non-FB sports.

They'll need to find another conference (WAC?) for non-FB sports and keep FB in CUSA for bowl access and schedule as many Texas and mountain teams, as possible, to reduce costs. Easy to see a lot of body bag games for UTEP in the future.

Yep. I feel for UTEP the most. I was really concerned about NT losing additional Texas teams to the AAC, before they decided to block the MWC and take 3 of us (assuming all this is official).

Back when UH was in CUSA, I found UTEP to be my favorite visiting fan base. And west Texas is one of my favorite places on Earth. I feel really bad for Miner fans and hope they find a way to land on their feet. But as the conference shifts more and more east, it's just not sustainable.

Yeah, I feel sorry for UTEP. I hope CUSA can at least try to get NMSU to help UTEP with travel.

No. That just extends the problem. I feel bad for them too, and they are welcome to be a part of CUSA until they find a better spot. But adding more TX teams just makes the problem worse now the CUSA is basically out of Texas. Once UTEP and Judy are gone, I hope CUSA never has anything else to do with Texas as a conference.

NMSU is not a Texas team.

Y'all aren't seeing the big picture. Everyone is leaving. I expect SB to add four or possible six teams. CUSA will dissolve and no one will pay an exit fee. If the SB doesn't deal the death blow now they might regret it years down the line.

NMSU is not a Texas team.

You are correct, they are further west than Texas which is all the more reason to say no. C-USA has been as Texas centric as possible and all the Texas teams that could leave did. We need to focus on the core that remains and that is in the East.

Any chance UTEP can join the WAC and stay in CUSA for football only for a while (yeah, I know "a while" is vague).

With hot takes like this I really do not understand why you have negative 12 points.

Agree. I think the SB will take the next four up. In the end, only four will remain. Maybe they all go independent and continue to schedule one another. If UTEP goes independent, they'll need a good bowl tie-in.

UTEP fans have discussed everything and this actually wouldn't be a bad idea. There are some opposed to it but it makes the most financial sense. Throw our Olympic sports in the WAC and be members of CUSA as football only. Eventually if the WAC is ever back at the FBS level move football there.

It sounds like a good plan. If your football program continues to rise, the MWC will notice, and their attitude toward UTEP will change. The basketball has to return as well.

UTEP, NMSU and Grand Canyon could make a strong three headed monster. The competition drops greatly after that but we should easily win 20+ games per year and be in the conversation for the autobid every year.

I read the plan is for the WAC to be FBS by 2030.

It's seven years from the time all the shuffling starts in 2023. It might even be sooner if NMSU and UTEP are on board.

If UTEP did that, CUSA could add 4 teams east of Texas and still make things work by adding another FB only school on the east - Army/UMass/UConn
