It seems the B1G outside of ND wants to add North Carolina more than anyone. I understand wanting to add NC & Va. to get the major brand in those Southeast Atlantic states to tie PSU in better and for those states recruiting.

But its usually mentioned adding Duke along with them. I also understand these are
basketball schools. But getting 303K viewers on ESPN2? Can the B1G really afford to use two spots and extend an invite to Duke also? Especially when the Duke bball program will go through a transition with Coach K stepping down?

I don’t get this infatuation by some Big Ten fans with UVA and UNC. Neither has ever been a football power and their programs aren’t not well supported within their states. I wouldn’t add them under any circumstances.

Who could the B1G reasonably add (and would want to join) that would add to the conference in money and football?

I'm not a fan of adding Duke. I'd like to see how they do without Coach K, but even then their football program has been a dumpster fire. They don't pay their way in. Now if they were willing to come with all sports except football, I'd be fine with that.

I think UNC would really be elevated if they broke away from the other North Carolina schools. If they moved up with the others staying put, I think that would be the trick to unlocking their football potential. Likewise, NC State could be that if they broke away to the SEC (or Big Ten). Four P5 schools in the state creates too much competition that they hold each other back.

I don't think the fact WF & Duke play football and are from the state holds NC back. I can see where NC St. is competition but you can't tell me if NC wants a recruit they loose that often to WF & Duke.

I do think part of adding NC & Virginia to the B1G is not about NC & Va. having really good football programs as much as it is viewers and the recruiting grounds. NC & Va. with the flagship programs in each state would add a LOT of recruits to the B1G. Being a PSU fan I'm sure you know that, as PSU with proximity would benefit from that as much as anyone.

Wake Forest is currently a top 25 school. Sure, Wake and Duke aren't typically juggernauts but any fans, boosters, supporters they do have mean that they aren't contributing to UNC or NC State. Obviously more support means more money and a better chance at winning, though not guaranteed (looking at you Texas).

I see why adding that area would be ace but can't be for Duke just based on bball. would anyone add Kentucky?
