RE: Women's Soccer Update!
Good game recap by Sophia Hosford.
The problem with this year's team is that they have zero offense. In their six losses they have scored one goal total. In two of their three wins they scored only one goal each and in only their first game did they score more than one goal (a 2-1 win at American). Even in soccer you can't win without scoring (unless you win in a shootout).

Let's see how they do in conference. Two top 25 teams in non-conference plus a Big Ten team. The scoring disparity isn't nearly as bad as shots taken.

Right -- definitely want to hold out hope for conference play

Already played two conference games, and averaging one half point per contest

Half point average equals one win. Wins are more important than goals scored, at least the last time I checked.

Re-read post #2. In 9 games so far they are 3-6 and have scored a total of 5 goals and allowed 18. Their one conference win was against Charleston who is historically one of the worst CAA teams (last three years their records were (0-2, 0-8-2), (0-3-1, 0-8-1), (2-7, 8-10)) -- and even that win wasn't accomplished until overtime.
I've been a fan of Tribe Women's Soccer for decades and I can tell you that this is historically bad. I'm hoping it turns around but every additional game seems to indicate that it won't this year.

RE: Women's Soccer Update!
As stated elsewhere: Daly was brought back on a volunteer basis to work specifically with the forwards. Is it the recruiting gone stale? I think moving the stadium to off campus and a diminished attendance has hurt the mens and womens recruiting significantly. Mens soccer used to have excellent attendance.
They should have converted Busch to grass to comply with NCAA standards and extended the adjacent turf field for field hockey all the way to the edge of the Caf. They currently have plans to demolish and rebuild the caf. Could have been turned into a Western campus student center with bleachers built onto the back and locker rooms for field hockey.

Completely agree. It'll never happen but I completely agree. Soccer on campus would get a helluva student draw.

Maybe. A bunch of recent recruits seem to be legacies ....daughters of women who played for the Tribe in the past (some of them were teammates of Shackford).
W&M's 34-year streak of winning records (an NCAA record in any sport) brought the Tribe a lot of respect in the soccer community. I fear that the last 3 years have squandered all that recruiting good will and it will be hard to get back if this recent trend continues much longer.

New poster here; long time lurker. Is the women's exhibition match against Richmond this Saturday open to the public?

It sure looks like it is. This is from a press release a few weeks ago:
"The Tribe opens the 2022 season with one of two exhibition matches against Richmond on Saturday, Aug. 6, at 5 p.m. Admission to the exhibition is free."
I can't imagine why they'd change that.
