lots of clips of dennis and burge, fwiw. i think dennis is gonna be a nice transition from marreon. different style of game (a bit more under control) but equally fun to watch.

I was worried Rollins and Shumate were not in that video but then came across this TK tweet from yesterday and both look very healthy.

First Official Basketball Practice
From an eye test perspective we look very athletic. There have been years where I see other teams in the conference looks like they suited up the football team while our guys look like the JV team. We are always competive, but this year it really looks like we have a team of hungry athletes who can hoop. We all wish we had some taller upper classmen, but I think we can really compete with the shorter lineup. I'm excited about our point guard position.

RE: First Official Basketball Practice
Watching some of Dennis’s video from his time at Boise St, he likes to facilitate the offense but also can take the ball to the basket when needed or when the defense leaves an opening. I also heard some very positive things about him over the summer! What his presence does is allow Rollins to concentrate on what he does best (scoring), and not have worry as much about getting his teammates involved if he had to concentrate on playing the point.

Icelandic dude on Left looks to have a pretty mature physique also. Was expecting a very skinny pale dude

I think he still qualifies for pale. Anyone ever did this stuff? I tried that cat-cow thing off a utube video and was down for two weeks with a pizzed off back. Too much cat or too much cow, I'm not sure which.

yoga definitely changed my life for the better. learning how to breath through pain and discomfort applies to many things in life and learning to connect your mental focus with your physical is useful. plus, the improved flexibility helps prevent injuries. a high % of athletes are now doing yoga. Jordan Lauf credited it with saving his college career after barely making it through his soph/jr seasons.

I had all that before the cow. Or maybe it was the cat. Maybe my body isn't meant for it.

I thought he was the least cut Rocket from the several yoga pics. i think that angle and lens make the guys on the edges of the group shot look a bit wider. I mean, Rian Rollins looks like an MMA fighter or professional arm wrestler. We knew he was growing into his frame but not like that yet.

What is becoming clear from a smattering of photos, video, articles and quotes is that we have a very athletic top 6 of Rollins, Dennis, Moss, Saunders, Milner and Shumate. That's a real good and tough group of players. I think Moss will emerge as the vocal leader of the team. He adds that middle linebacker experience and seems to provide a lot of energy and direction.

For those who don't know RayJ Dennis' story. He was born with a clubbed foot and his parents were told he'd never walk properly. They refused to accept that and through physical therapy, surgeries, rehab, and love he finally straightened out his foot and ankle and was able to walk around age 5. His basketball career is pretty remarkable. And his game is very slick. Kid has a lot of moves and plays aware. His knock was that he faded down the stretch last year at Boise St. Then again, that whole team kinda crumbled in the crunch.

this team will play a bit different. lots of marreon jackson getting by people and looking for 3 point shooters or his own shot last year. This team has 6 guys who can be opportunistic scorers and not have to search for shots. plus, i prefer Rollins over Jackson as my late game iso guy and playmaker. I mean Marreon had some great late game plays for sure. hit more than his share of huge shots. but he also took a ton. we'll see more guys in double figures per game this year.

1st exhibition game vs that tricky motion offense Hillsdale team is in 3 weeks. that should give us an indication of how this Rockets squad is shaping up. Hillsdale usually plays us to the wire, but it's just a practice game so the score is not so important.

RE: First Official Basketball Practice
The talk around town this time of year is always the same. “This may be the deepest team we’ve had in (pick a number) of years.” Then the season starts and it turns out that the highlight tapes that everyone’s been looking at aren’t all that indicative of how good some of the guys really are. (Or the guys telling us about them aren’t quite as skilled at player evaluation as they think they are ?) The good news is, TK puts together a very good team with the seven or so good players he has and we usually have a very good year. The bad news is, when that very good team crosses the Cleveland city limits on the bus, … Oh, and after the season, about four members of the deepest team in years transfer out.

I bet it happens again. Except this time we do better in Cleveland.

well, my post above was basically that we have 6 solid players. TK sounds like he is a bit higher on his 8, 9, 10, 11 guys than usual, has been bragging on this recruiting class. we'll see. and, what it really depends on is if those farther down the rotation guys produce. can they make some plays in 2 or 3 minute bench roles. i think we've had some lean years with end of the bench depth/numbers. and some unproductive 7, 8 9 guys in the rotation. this might be a bit deeper squad though. even burge is a good walkon. D1 athlete with a D3 game. so, despite edu out we got a good competitive 13 man practice squad. to be honest, i'm more in the wait till next year camp-in terms of potential. if you can keep all these core guys together and throw in edu-reasonably healthy- and a legit pf in javan simmons. that's a deep squad.

We need at least an 9 man rotation to go FARTHER this year. Fresh legs via depth is the only anti-dote for lack of size. This team needs 9 players getting at least 5 minutes of PT per game.

Go Rockets!
