UAB Receives $100M Gift to Rename Its School of Medicine
UAB's med school will now be the Heersink School of Medicine following the $100M gift. $95M from Dr. Marnix Heersink (the largest single gift in school history) and $5M from Triton Healthcare.

Not athletics related obviously, but that's a big time gift for the University.

He also owns a 16th century Dutch castle on a 400 acre estate.

He's a co owner of different medical offices in various states and also is a co owner in a few other companies. But yeah, I wondered the same initially.
