Let’s discuss this: Ford Motor Coming to Memphis region
The single largest investment in the history of the state of Tennessee is coming to Memphis. This is huge for the entire region.

At a press conference Monday, Sept. 27, Gov. Bill Lee said it was “the largest single investment in this state’s history.”

The residuals of this will end up being tens of thousands of jobs. Not to mention, it will kickstart more manufacturing coming to the Memphis mega site.

Is this to be at the Brownsville mega site? NBC news announced new Ford plants in Tennessee and Kentucky, but I have not found any additional info.

Quote:Partnering with a South Korean company, SK Innovation, Ford announced a $5.6 billion investment and 5,800 direct jobs at the Haywood County site, between Memphis and Jackson.

The Memphis Regional Megasite is located in Stanton, in southwest Haywood County.

RE: Let’s discuss this: Ford Motor Coming to Memphis region
Guys, it’s not Brownsville, it’s Stanton. In fact, most of you have traveled I-40 and passed by Exit 42. There’s a huge solar collector farm just East of Exit 42 on the North side of I-40. They have built an exit to that with a solar museum or some such.

Anyway, if you took Exit 42 and went about 1/2 mile north, the Megasite is on your left. They have a new divided highway to it.

I’m excited because I live about 5 miles away. Eventually this development will cause a nice jump in my land values.

Not necessarily. This may be a great opportunity for the university to partner with Ford in some academic capacity. Just as Holiday Inn has the on-site hotel for partnering with the hospitality & resort management program, this could be a good opportunity to develop some good internships or other mutually beneficial arrangement.

Pretty parochial thinking. There are Tiger fans who will see major changes because of this. The Memphis mayor was even quoted today as saying that with the thousands of jobs this will create, there will be people from Memphis working at this site, too.

You might read his quotes to see if Memphis is affected. Don’t take my word for it.

Stanton isn’t much farther from Memphis than Smyrna is from Nashville. I’m sure you know what happened to Nashville and the entire area after that first factory was built.

If they wanted MEMPHIS workers --why didn't they put it in MEMPHIS or SHELBY COUNTY ---looks to me like FORD took the BIG12 route

RE: Let’s discuss this: Ford Motor Coming to Memphis region
Some of you are short sited. Exit 42 is only 20 minutes from Memphis proper. This will lead to economic development that stretches all the way to exit 42. It will extend Memphis proper. I could actually vision this growing Memphis and Jackson together and becoming one metroplex.

If you drive from one end of Dallas to the other end of Fort Worth it will take you over two hours in good traffic. Memphis and Jackson Tennessee can become this.

This can create exponential growth throughout the region which will only create more jobs and more residual jobs over the next decade. Memphis is not just Memphis. Memphis is West Tennessee, North Mississippi and eastern Arkansas. When Nashville truly began to grow was when it understood the importance of growing a region and not just its city.

If Memphis is going to grow its market, meaning it’s TV market, it is going to be when it extends itself beyond its own borders. And once this thing is up and running, hopefully it brings more jobs and more money to the state and our area for development, better roads and bridges, better schools… Which will only lead to better things for the city of Memphis and the region.

It’s about time the state of Tennessee actually stepped in and helped Memphis & West TN the way it has been helping Nashville and middle Tennessee over the past 30 years.

This site is within a 1 Hour drive of almost everyone in West Tennessee. That’s why it is so huge to growing the region. When Charlotte North Carolina started getting professional sports and more worldwide recognition, it was when they were recognized for having one of the largest regional populations in America within 100 miles of the center of Charlotte.

The more West Tennessee grows and develops, the better it is for Memphis. Memphis is the commercial center of West, Tennessee. So as West Tennessee grows, Memphis grows and benefits.
