RE: Chancellor Retiring
Woody White also stepped down from the UNCW board today too.
Not to bring politics into the conversation, but Zito was appointed by a Republican and White is a strong Republican.
The leadership culture of UNCW is about to change strongly

Tom Ross was the UNC system President when Zito was hired. He was Democrat. Zito was a Republican and businessman. He caved to the woke crap this past year and ended up in the crosshairs of everyone. That's why he is leaving. He didn't sign up for this crap and doesn't need the money.
We can only hope the next Chancellor can continue down the path of growth and research that was laid out by Zito. If that happens, athletics will take care of itself.

RE: Chancellor Retiring
We will see. They've changed the rules on selection
https://portcitydaily.com/wilmington/202...next-year/
Quote:This will be the first chancellor search in N.C. operating under a new rule put forth by UNC System President Peter Hans. Hans, who helmed the community college system before being hired as the top official in N.C. higher education, gave himself the power to hand-select two individuals who will assuredly make it to the final stage of the selection process.
Stakeholders at UNCW, namely the board of trustees, will conduct interviews and create their own short list. Those names will be presented to Hans, joining the special selections of his own, who will then pick a name from the group. The board of governors then holds a vote on whether to confirm that candidate — the final step.

I'm hearing both of the Cuomo brothers are on the short list as replacements with Hunter Biden coming in a strong third.

Agreed. Our next Chancellor will define our athletic future. Hopefully we get another businessman like Dr Sartarelli that sees the continued growth potential of this University.

I'm sure it will be a woke liberal that will condone BLM flags hanging all over the campus buildings.

RE: Chancellor Retiring
Can someone retire on their own? I don't believe in conspiracy theories and politics at this level-could it be? Absolutely. Let it play out and lets not post a bunch of speculative stuff before it plays out. That's over the top.
Just FYI, please keep your political opinions to yourself guys-can't believe that I'm having to do this again as I was the Moderator for YEARS (could not continue running multiple labs at work, being the sole-caretaker of aging parents and helping run a church plus being a parent) and I hopefully SHOULD be speaking for the the current Moderator regarding asserting political options. If you're assuming that everyone feels like you do and quite frankly, many don't, it portrays a very one-sided view of how the general population UNCW sees things. Message boards should NOT be political AT ALL. Just FYI.... I'm the REASON why this board is even here in the first place because I started this board for UNCW fans/EVERYONE-found this site and contacted everyone when the old board went dead, not just those that have a certain political slant. It is harmful on many levels including recruiting.
Parents of recruits read this board. Could that alienate someone that may want to come to UNCW? This is a message board for UNCW athletics not a political forum.

Do you follow the news at UNCW? In the past year, we had a professor attacked over a twitter post the woke took offense to. The professor was hounded and attacked relentlessly, pretty much forced to retire, then he committed suicide.
Then the Chancellor was hounded and attacked by some of the faculty senate because he dared to say "all lives matter". The faulty senate voted to "censure" him for the comment. It was all over the news.
Now we've had a trustee resign over this same nonsense.
Sorry, this affects athletics and is far more important than a recruit. They need to know what the environment is at UNCW and what they're getting into. I'm about to pull all my support for UNCW in every manner.
Screw em'.

RE: Chancellor Retiring
Satarelli was attacked from both sides. Liberals and conservatives. I'm sure he felt like he couldn't please anyone. I truly believe he tried to make decisions on the future of UNCW in a business sense. I don't think he was making those decisions based on politics. But apparently, by doing so, he was losing support from both sides of the spectrum.

Not really sure recruits read this board but I do think parents of recruits most likely check it out . If it comes across one way or another it could be a factor in the decision . With basketball players in particular you are talking mostly black players who often come from urban environments with some tough living conditions . I doubt that they are conservative by circumstance . I agree 100% it may not be the place to voice political concerns form either side .

Just discuss the retirement, any options and keep the political nonsense out of it.
This site has a politics board if you want to discuss politics. Keep it off this forum please, as it jeopardizes the site with legal issues.

Can someone in Wilmington find Bill and give him a pat on the back please (from those of us across ALL political spectrums)?
Thank you. Lol
Okay. Seriously. Let’s all put our weird egos and politics aside and host hope we continue with another good Chancellor that will prioritize UNCW athletics.

RE: Chancellor Retiring
My only issue with Zito was he didn't seem capable of making a decision and sticking with it. He was trying to please to many people and wasn't strong enough to stick to what he knew was right, that is not the virtue of an excellent leader. He seemed to be a good man and I appreciate all the positive changes he made to UNCW and wish him a very happy retirement.
