RE: BB Class of 2023
we should be overjoyed to get a Top 50 player. Actually, it might be better than getting a top 10/20, who often are selfish and playing for draft positioning.

Now I will believe it, if I see it.

Not sure what info went into this but it looks like one of the Rivals experts just forecasted Cincinnati as the ultimate destination for Rayvon Griffith FWIW. The expert is from the Indiana Rivals site but is only 5/7 with his predictions so I do not have a ton of confidence here but it's better than nothing.

https://n.rivals.com/content/forecaster_...es/3141995

Could you imagine rolling out this starting line-up in 2023 for our inaugural Big 12 season?

PG - Collier (FR)
SG - Skillings (SO)
SF - Griffith (FR)
PF - Reed (SO) OR Oguama (Super SR)
C - Lakhin (JR)

Yeah, we'd be young and take our lumps but that would be a team with a really high ceiling and absolutely electric on offense.

Glad this thread has responses.
Love that the thread is active. I read all the recruiting updates here.

My point was- imagine if a kid is top 10 and he really wants to stay home. That’s an advantage because we are the hometown team.

Imagine the same kid is top 50 and wants to stays in his hometown city. Yeah I’d be super overjoyed to have him. But out of the two I’ll take the top 10. We don’t have that advantage for kids from out of town.

Most schools don't have that advantage unless the kid is from Durham, NC, Los Angeles, CA, or Lexington, KY

Getting Rayvon would be LITTT, program defining recruit right there.

That would have to help with Collier or Green as well.

True, I believe too. There is a lot riding on getting a "hometown hero" on the basketball court. Recognizing the dynamics of basketball vs. football recruiting are quite different, I believe other high profile players would begin to see Cincinnati in a new light--as a destination school once again, competing in a Big 12 that is, right now, the highest profile conference in men's basketball.

Not sure how many Bearcat fans peruse the AAC board but props to /u/robertfoshizzle for Imitation Gaming this whole damn thing.

He's a local kid who has spoken about how cool it would be to be a hometown hero (a term Fickell uses for the football program a lot) and we have put in the most work recruiting him so far. An early commitment definitely leans to our favor. Yes, I just conspiracy theoried a high school kid's announce date.

Wes Miller was at Griffith's first game and assistants were at every other game that weekend. It's going to happen and then Wes can turn up the heat on Isaiah Collier and Dailyn Swain.

I'm focused on Rayvon until Sunday, but great to see he is taking note of Cincinnati prioritizing him more than other schools to this point.

The chatter is encouraging but nothing is officially closed on these '23 players yet.

With that said, '22 transfer Nolley is hours from an announcement and by Sunday night we should know even more with Rayvon's impending announcement. If two or three (Collier) fell into place, Wes Miller's recruiting for his second season might be among the best Bearcat fans have ever witnessed in program history. A reason to believe so soon after the frustrations of the '21-'22 campaign.

Oh how far we've fallen. UC is now considered a mid-major.

If you’re casually looking through the list of schools involved in Collier’s recruitment, you might notice one, in particular, sticks out — Cincinnati.

The average college basketball fan might see the Bearcats on his list and scoff, thinking there is no shot he’d go there when he has options from Auburn, Alabama, UCLA, the full gamut.

I kind of got the same sentiment but then I thought well Auburn/Bama are his home state schools and UCLA is The Blue Blood of college basketball and his mother is from LA with family there as well.

Cincy seems to be the odd one out along with USC, Michigan, and Florida St. in that regard but we seem to be higher on the list according to this writer.

It won't likely be UCLA. They just signed a top 3O or so 4 star PG. I think he comes here to get close to starters minutes right off the bat.

With Rayvon's pending announcement, I would implore you all to read the BCJ article about Tyler McKinnley now that it is free for the day. Sunday could be the start of a new generation in Bearcats Basketball.

Good point. I read that too and feel UC may be approaching a breakthrough with Wes recruiting talent that could not only return our Bearcats to March Madness, but more importantly, compete again to reach the final weekend.

From what I've read, the Big 12 entry doesn't seem to be a major factor in Rayvon's decision but McKinley made it a point of emphasis. The timing of UC's entry couldn't be better from a recruiting standpoint with B2B national championships from two different Big 12 schools. The future is bright. Maybe brighter than ever.

It really is the perfect storm...moving to the best basketball conference in America the same year that you have two Top-50 talents within your beltway (something that hasn't happened in a VERY long time).

Yup. It would also immensely help with 5 star Isaiah Collier and his team that’s blowing up. One time let’s keep the good times rolling!
