Exclamation Tarleton State Reviving Mens Golf
First, women’s soccer and now men’s golf.

STEPHENVILLE – After 27 years, the Tarleton men's golf program will return to Tarleton State University in fall 2022.

"This is an exciting time for our athletic department and one that I have personally been looking forward to for some time," said Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Lonn Reisman. "Our men's golf program has such a rich tradition of excellence at this university and we're thankful to Tarleton President Dr. James Hurley and everyone involved in reviving this program. We're excited to begin the search for its next head coach."

Tarleton's history in men's golf dates to 1929 when the program was initially added as a university-sanctioned program with legendary multi-sport head coach, W.J. Wisdom, at the helm.

I am glad to see Tarleton add a mens sport. I would like to see them add a few more. Swiming and Diving and Soccer may come in the near future. I hope they add Tennis and Wrestling as well, that would be cool!

It would be great if you could just add sports because of an interest to give more people an opportunity to compete but with Title IX schools are forced to keep men and women numbers pretty close if not equal. So if a school wants to move from FCS to FBS in football or add a sport it has to count the scholarships and figure what companion sports it will offer. I don't remember all the moves but when Lamar restarted football is also when it started softball.

Adding Women's Soccer and now Men's Golf leads me to believe that we might be done adding sports for the next 5 years. Title IX is evened out that way. I could see adding Men's Soccer and Tennis before swimming.

As of right now that means we offer the following:
Men
Football
Basketball
I/O Track & Field
Baseball
Golf
Cross Country

Women
Volleyball
Basketball
I/O Track and Field
Cross Country
Golf
Tennis
Softball
Soccer

Congrats for adding golf at Tarleton, well done. What will be the home course for your team? I've played a few in the general area but am not up-to-date on the latest layouts.

Personal favorites that are nice:
Squaw Valley , Glen Rose
Sugar Tree , Brock
The Cliffs , Possum Kingdom

Home course would be Legends in Stephenville or Harbor Lakes in Granbury. Legends is nothing to be proud of and Harbor Lakes is your typical retirement Course on the lake.

Have played Sugar Tree, Squaw Valley, and The Cliffs. Don't know the Legends or Harbor Lakes. Back tees at the Cliffs has a very deceptive par three if I remember correctly. Impossible to club just using yardage, and another par three that seemed straight down a cliff. Very interesting course. We try to go by and play it every year and it only gets harder as you get older. The view at 9 is really nice.

First time playing the Cliffs I was 2 over on the front, drank too much on the back and ended up going through 3 sleeves of balls. Great experience nonetheless. I think Squaw Valley is the best kept, and best course in the area with the two courses (Links and Lakes).

I’ve played squaw valley quite a bit. It’s been a few months now but the last time the greens were about the worst I’ve ever seen. The freeze apparently just about killed them all. Hopefully it’s better now. Another close decent course is Par Country Club.

You are correct about the greens. The 0 degree temps burned them off this winter. I believe they are in talks about rebuilding 9 at time for the next few years.
