Either this is a really good sign that things are going well with where the additions and TV deal will end up or the presidents are really really stupid.

Well, the Presidents and ADs of the AAC member schools seem to think he's doing a great job.

For my part .... oh what the hell. Nobody cares what I think, LOL.

Think that's a good or bad sign? The term is the same as the last one, so that's not weird.

It coincides with the termination of the current CFP deal. I guess that's meaningful.

It is well deserved, IMO. He elevated the AAC to the best of the G-5. It is not his fault three school’s bolted.

Interesting who the comments are from...

Quote:“Mike Aresco is an excellent leader and a tireless advocate on behalf of the American Athletic Conference and our 12 member institutions,” said Michael Fitts, President of Tulane University and Chair of The American’s Board of Directors.

Quote:“The leadership of Mike Aresco has been crucial in the development of the American Athletic Conference and its ability to credibly claim the right to be added to those conferences listed at the top of intercollegiate athletics,” said R. Gerald Turner, president of Southern Methodist University

Quote:“At a time of unparalleled change in college athletics, Mike has been innovative, aggressive and highly effective in separating the AAC from the Group of Five and placing us on equal footing with the Autonomy Five conferences,” said M. David Rudd, President of the University of Memphis

Quote:“The growth of the American Athletic Conference under Mike Aresco’s leadership has been remarkable,” said Michael Kelly, Vice President of Athletics at the University of South Florida

You can only say it's "deserved" if the reactions to that leave the AAC as the clear best of the G5. If he pulls off the big swing with some MWC teams and keeps the TV deal essentially the same then he certainly deserved it. If he adds insert whatever C-USA/Sun-Belt school then no he didn't deserve it because I could run the league and pull that off that takes zero skill.

RE: Aresco gets 3-year Contract Extension
I've vocally not been a fan of Aresco on certain issues however all in all his relationship with ESPN is exactly what the AAC needs right now. Hell he got ESPN on board to try and pull B12 into the AAC instead of the other way around. I think he likely used his ESPN connections as leverage to get an extension on his contract before doing the heavy lifting of realignment, which is very smart. The presidents must be very confident in his ability to pull the tier 1 schools into the conference. Hopefully he does!

Edit: post 777 for me = this is the jackpot

If I were a school who just agreed to come to the AAC, I might have wanted assurances of stability.

This is a good sign.

Shearing the UConn anchor line is a plus.

Just after he completed campus visits for candidates.

This has actually been in the works for a few months. Just now able to come to terms.
