Take nothing away from ACU, but this should be a total embarrassment for Lamar. Not so much that it was a loss but that Lamar didn't even compete.

ACU was a 2 1/2 point favorite. The margin of victory came as a complete surprise, particularly after Lamar’s come from behind win on the road against Northern Colorado.

RE: AQ7 Week Four
Stone Earle hit some great passes and the ACU running backs are always fresh. The question will normally be the play of the OL and the whole defense. Against Lamar, both lines were dominant. Each game seems to show a little more opening up. The year started with slow play calling and now the Wildcats are normally quick to the line and play fast. There has been a huge shift in how ACU has played with each game getting quicker and more open. Lots of progress. I guess UCA will be a test to see just how much this team has improved.

AQ7 game between Sam Houston and Central Arkansas will probably set the bar for which teams will be the early favorite in the AQ7.

Sam Houston plays Stephen F. Austin the following week and then Stephen F plays Jacksonville State on Oct 9, so we should have a real good feel for the pretenders and contenders are both in the WAC & AQ7 during the first three weeks here.

The other intriguing game is Abilene Christian @ Lamar. Lamar took a nice step forward with a win over Northern Colorado in developing the program. ACU's head coach is on the hot seat and losing to Lamar likely means the Wildcats are in the bottom tier of the league without question, further warming that seat.

Saturday, September 25

Austin Peay @ Eastern Kentucky
Tennessee-Martin @ Jacksonville State
Sam Houston @ Central Arkansas
Abilene Christian @ Lamar
New Mexico-Highlands @ Tarleton St
Lincoln (CA) @ Stephen F Austin

The AQ 7’s rep took a bit of a hit yesterday with Jax State’s loss to an Un ranked Tenn-Martin team.

EKU pulled off a minor upset over Austin Peay to salvage a bit of rep for the AQ7.

SFA moved onto my top 25 ballot this week by beating up on a sub D2 team while teams in the lower half of the top 25 dropped like flies.

Sam Houston solidified its position as #1 in the conference and the nation with a hard fought win over UCA. I was impressed by UCA’s no quit attitude after getting down, but SHSU Is as good as advertised.

The hot seat is a little less warm for ACU’s coach following the Wildcats dominant win over Lamar.

Sam Houston with a significant win at UCA. Defeating SFA would cement the Kats as the ones to beat in the AQ7 and give them the inside track officially to the automatic bid

Jacksonville State loss hurt their at large chances but they still have the league to play for

SFA with another solid outing albeit against soft competition. They got a test this coming weekend in Houston. Honestly if they lose to Sam, they can’t afford more than one more loss (and better be a decent loss) or they will not have a clear path to at large either even at 7 D1 wins (8 total)

ACU might be pretty good. We don’t know yet. Tough, tough game this week.
We shall see.

That just goes to show they are way better than NMSU who could only score 17 and the last 7 was in garbage time lol
