He told me he thought Freeze was a great coach, but he doesn’t seem to feel especially constrained by NCAA and university guidelines (he had a transfer rejected because the school wouldn’t waive its requirements, and Freeze kept telling the kid it’s going to be worked out, finally academics had to explain there was no way he was getting in unless he went some place else and got the issue worked out).

My friend said pray he leaves after three years because he is a horse drawn wagon loaded with nitroglycerin driving down a road full of potholes.

When he was Ole Miss and the NCAA noose was around his neck, he asked the AState System President for a character reference letter and the president declined to do so, which came out in the flurry of Ole Miss FOI requests.

Maybe as he’s gotten older his exuberance is more in check and he is ready to operate within the framework of NCAA rules and institutional rules, if so, HIRE HIM. I’m leery though.
In the past year, when asked by reporters in press conferences, specifically with the Tennessee and South Carolina openings when his name was mentioned, Freeze emphatically said he was happy at Liberty and wanted to stay, "unless the perfect situation was available".

In most all circumstances that is coach-speak telling the audience what he wants them to hear. With his flirt with Old Miss, does he want to get another chance to redeem himself in the SEC? Or does he want to become known as the coach that brought LU to top tier football. Ultimately playing Notre Dame which is the program's goal for having truly arrived.

Freeze has a cushy position at LU and with Jr. Falwell gone, he's in an ideal slot to implement his goals with less admins objections than other schools. Of course, this all gets wiped out if he suffers another recruiting snafu or zipper mal function. And the guy can flat out coach with all his weaknesses and warts.

Not only would I hire Freeze, he's my preferred replacement should Fuente get fired. But then I don't make those decisions and most responses on the VT board were not interested in Freeze.

There could be several ACC HC openings with how several teams have played this year. If, and/or when Freeze leaves LU, my odds on conference picks would be the ACC then the SEC as a new HC. Of course the main factor being the school and the multitude of other considerations. LU was supposedly his only HC option with offensive coordinator positions available again at Tennessee at the time and at other SEC schools.

Who knows what drives a guy?

Ole Miss was his dream job. Typical USM grad I guess. But he had mentioned Ole Miss before anyone thought Nutt would fly it into the ground so early.

I think he’s got the middle age dream job. Lot of money in relation to the amount of pressure and expectations per dollar earned.

Do you want to take on a higher paying rebuild that even if you do your best is not cinch to work?

Really comes down to what makes him tick, I spoke with him often and I can’t tell you that answer. He has the opportunity to live in a beautiful part of the country with a decent climate and become a legend if he carries and retires there. He also has a chance to be on SportsCenter more often and talk to the name reporters and sports show hosts if he moves to a P5. The thing is I don’t think a P5 that isn’t a rebuild will be available to him, ie., a job where a guy retires on top or near it or goes to even greener pastures at blue blood or NFL. So does he want a rebuild? He says no but those answers sometimes change with new information.

With your experience, I want to throw out a zinger. Last season when his name was mentioned for the SEC openings, he did leave the door open by saying only a very unique situation would he consider leaving. That to me sounded like wanting to be Saban's replacement. I do not follow Alabama FB close enough to know if there is a coach-in-waiting or even if Freeze would be accepted there. On a lark, is that the specific situation Freeze could be alluding to? How much longer will Saban stay and I believe Freeze is in his mid 50's so the ages and opening could line up?

People don't change their core. This is a guy who broke rules of recruiting, didn't care, just get what he wants. This is a guys who used company (Ole' Miss) phones and computers to get hookers, because he doesn't recognize boundaries and doesn't care. He always played the Christian note, because it blinds some people to his ways.

Liberty is perfect for him to continue his ways because it was run by a single individual who was somewhat erratic and also had boundary issues in Falwell Jr. Even with him gone one really has to wonder how much institutional structure there is at Liberty and how much oversight and control their is of Freeze. IMO this has big scandal potential written all over it.

For now it's calm. But I wonder.

Freeze's is on an hot streak as long as he keeps clean, or does not get caught. LU is fairly bullet proof being private and not having to adhere to politicians or social norms that has boosters who place pressure on admins to pressure the school. My guess is most of LU's large endowment and monies have come from their online school, not years and years of alumni giving. Love'em or hat'em, LU was years ahead of the curve with their aggressive online programs.

A guess is LU is more concerned about a scandal involving the FB program and Freeze than any other factor. The factor being it will hurt their brand and it's perception and appeal and their bottom line. SBC schools snubbed LU when LU was openly courting an invite. Reasons being LU's past missteps were many. And the more valid reason for the snub was the available investment, financial commitment and open checkbook LU will spend to succeed. An envy for most if not all SBC schools.

Yes, I would like to see an ex P5 coach get the job someday. Worked for Ohio w/ Solich & it's working out decently for Central Michigan w/ McElwain. Sounds to me like w/ Freeze you just need a good AD to keep an eye on him.

I think Freeze is right where he belongs. Liberty is obviously no stranger to scandal and perfectly comfortable with scoundrels, so he fits in there. He pretends to be a reformed Christian at a university that pretends to be a good Christian school and they rack up wins and more importantly, collect generous donations from people gullible enough to buy into the cynical myth and everyone is happy.

I’m not naïve and I fully understand those that don’t trust Freeze, but I like many other Christians believe in a God of second chances. A poster early said a person doesn’t change. I agree with that statement unless Gods involved in that process. No doubt my heart was changed and I’m not the same person I once was. Just saying.

I think Freeze stays at Liberty for awhile. I believe he’s been shocked how quickly he’s found success at Liberty. He’s made comments that recruiting isn’t as hard as he thought it would be. Liberty has a lot of student conduct rules that will turn off many players. He’s focused on recruiting mainly Christian kids. He makes 3 million a year, his staff is paid well, his family LOVES the area and he can be a top 20 team. He’s also made the comment he’s home for dinner every night. He can’t do that at big time SEC schools.

You and I and God may believe in second chances, but the university presidents who supported the BLM movement that literally ruined businesses across the country a year ago and who can’t deal with differing opinions continue to support marxists and anti White racists. The hypocrisy is off the charts when it comes to LU.

And to the mods, this is no different than people making anti Liberty comments due to their creationism nonsense. Please consider that. Thanks.

As a Christian I believe in grace and forgiveness.
I also wouldn’t permit a child molester run a daycare despite repentance. I wouldn’t let an repented and recovered opioid addict work behind the counter at a pharmacy. I wouldn’t permit a repented embezzler to have access to my checkbook or cash register. If my spouse had been unfaithful and repented I’d not stand for coming home late with unaccounted for time.

As a dog returns to his vomit so does a fool return to his folly.

And as for creationism. I have a hard time with an institution of higher education demanding that all faculty sign an affidavit claiming to believe not in creationism but young earth creationism, I feel certain a number have lied in signing that because they need a job.

And as a LU fan, and not one in any way affiliated with the school or church I agree. I'm just a fan from Lynchburg and I wonder why often LU fans feel obligated to bring their faith into a sports forum? This discussion is about the yea or nay of hiring the coach. When LU fans bring holier than thou rancor into the discussion, it dilutes the validity of their position. True LU is a different animal. And there is less independent thinking and more a follow the leader approach at LU which is ok. Not for everybody but ok.

LU fans, keep to the topic at hand and experience your values and beliefs within your inner self. You'll gain greater personal insights rather than spouting oft said and repeated Christian values on a sports BBS.

Does HC Freeze get any more love/votes after defeating UAB yesterday? Fairly convincing win, especially after UAB was favored by Vegas by 2 points.

With 40 votes to date, 65% of posters say they would hire Freeze.

2 weeks left to vote in the poll.

Miami will probably be desperate enough to go for it. He'll leave them on a decade-long probation with everything vacated, but the NCAA can't take away the memories of a brief return to relevance.

Yes.

I was a strong advocate for SC going after Freeze when we did have an opening last year.
