I think we just went from a potentially special year to a lot of people gaining major playing time. Hopefully some of these injuries won't keep them out for long..

Aren't you forgetting the center Matt Lee?

I'm glad SOMEONE else picked up on that besides me. Felt like I was back in 2002 when I read that name.

RE: Stick a fork in us (UCF) we are done.
No offense, but in 2009, UC went to the Orange Bowl in a season that featured FIVE different starting QB's, including Dustin Grutza. who suffered a broken leg in the second game of the season against Oklahoma and Tony Pike who broke his arm in the fourth game. That was the season that popularized the phrase "Next man in" at UC.

I feel terrible for Dillon Gabriel and wish him a speedy and full recovery. It really sucks that he was hurt on the play he was in a situation where the game, for all intents and purposes, was over. But this really is an inflection point for UCF: either they will rally around their hurt leader ("Win one for the Gipper!") or they'll fold the season up. Someone made a jest about Holgs up thread, but it's a good point: What will you do? By redshirting whats-his-name, Holgs basically signalled to the rest of the team that the season was "over" three games in.

I get the fan frustration, but the whole "Stick a fork in it" mentality is really bad. Ironically, Gabriel would still be available if Gus had said, "You know what? Stick a fork in it..." and took a knee on that last play. In retrospect, maybe he should have "played it safe," but we'll never know.

Next man in, baby...next man in.

I don't think it's that simple. It's a depth issue. We don't have a great deal of depth this year and I blame Heupel. I like Gus and he's recruited great players. In a few years we'll have great depth. Right now, we're about to start a true freshman at QB. He may be decent but it'll still be a down year.

UCF will be starting True Freshmen QB Mikey Keene, who enrolled back in January.

Recent QB transfer from Kentucky (via Auburn), Gatewood, who arrived on UCF campus just before the season started, will most likely have some running packages (maybe some safe rollout throws) during the next game at Navy to give opponents something to think about too.

@Sideshow2313 it is just a hard pill to swallow. We got lucky and found Isaiah Bowser in the portal. Then he gets hurt. Then we lose our top 10 QB Dillon.

Good luck with Keene, hope he pans out. USF is also starting a true freshman QB, Timmy McClain, at BYU Saturday. McClain also enrolled in January, and went through spring ball. He's played decently the first 3 games so we'll see what happens.

RE: Stick a fork in us (UCF) we are done.
We should at the very least make it to a bowl game with Keene. We have 2 wins under our belt already and 3 lower tier teams in Temple, UConn, and USF on the schedule. So UCF needs to pull out a win against Navy, ECU, Memphis, Tulane, or SMU to make it to a bowl game. UCF @ Cincy is just going to be a flat out loss, just don't get embarrassed. 6-6 with Keene at the wheel is the floor as my expectation. Anything less than bowl eligible and I'll be upset with the coaching staff.

Navy is pretty bad this year, so that's probably a win for UCF also.

I'm just glad that as bad as the first two games were, we're still considered in the tier ABOVE Temple, UConn, and USF.

BYU might be better than Florida. That's a tough game to throw that kid into.

With all the cut blocks, UCF may not have anyone left. I love navy… I don’t love playing that defense.

Except you're not better than USF. USF lost to Florida by 3 TD's, a team that nearly beat Alabama, and would beat everyone in the AAC by 2 TD's.

Possible, but I don't see it. First off, Florida has far better athletes than BYU, and secondly, BYU struggled mightily to beat Arizona, a team that I believe is worse than USF.

BYU could absolutely rout us, but I personally believe USF will make this a game, and that Florida is far more talented than BYU. Florida's backup QB is an absolute man child.

Would BYU lose by 2 to Alabama. Negative, good buddy.

OK, then, tell me how much you honestly believe Florida would beat Navy by then?

I personally believe Florida wins that game by at least 40 points. Maybe 50. My personal opinion. USF may be down, but has the athletic horses to at least compete with Florida in stretches. Navy gets run out of the stadium by Florida in a runaway.
