I hope your "at least" part comes true but if this is the fruits of Aresco's effort...it's another swing and a miss.
I reserve my right to be totally pissed off at him till I see for sure the other 1 or 2, (especially 1 particular 1), make there final decisions.

You get Air Force and Colorado to defect, and then hope that San Diego State and Boise State want to come along instead of staying in a weakened MWC. We know SDSU would have before if we had given them all-sports. And their basketball is needed more than ever now.

The next piece is Army if they can pull them in.
Need Boise and SDSU though. SDSU for basketball for sure.

This doesn't even come close to replacing what you lost. Without Boise this is stupid.

They did it more so in the WAC than the MWC, but they could be a lot of fun to see on the schedule. The MWC teams rag on them for being boring games but I think they’re a good fit. The style of play is a grind so I get part of that argument, but it’s good old fashioned ball.

I hope the AAC does not expand with UAB. It screams CUSA too much for my taste. I don’t care if they win every game. The Blazers are a never was and that’s how I see them. SDSU and Boise are the absolute best additions nationally the American can add. I think they would bring the most fan interest. I am really hoping they both get the add.

Let's be serious, Colorado State sucks. They have a new stadium that they can't fill and that's about it. The only thing that would've made this move good would've been getting Boise.. which that article also says aint comin.

Perception wise, maybe not. Value wise… remember these are just the first two. We probably get army with this. All three academies are worth money… and as a alumni of a school that is very close with the military, I am excited to have all of them at USF.

Boise wasn't the only thing that would make it a good move.

SDSU is in a huge market region, has a good FB program, good viewership, and would be one of the top 2 or 3 basketball programs in the AAC.

Air Force would be an outstanding addition from a brand/stature standpoint, and because they have a very large national audience, due to all the air force personnel everywhere. AF also has a strong FB team every 2 or 3 years.

CSU FB needs work, but they have a good BB program, they're a major state university with strong brand recognition, and they're an R1 university, which the AAC needs.

Add SDSU, Air Force, CSU, and any other good FB/BB school, and ESPN might keep the $7M/yr revenue stream flowing.

id rather have army than airforce at least that way you can have the army navy game as showcase for the conference. 3 programs that are triple option seem a little overkill but times are desperate.
i do like that it opens up for another basketball only add. SDSU would be the biggest failure if they don't move..because theyre constantly holding Boises pocket and when they leave they are going to be by themselves with no shot at access bowls.

This is not surprising. I suspect the AAC will land both AFA and CSU-Fort Collins with the help of ESPN.

I see this as a signal to Boise and SDSU that yes, a western wing of all sports is doable. Your move next. Don't wait too long, or we move east.

From all I've read...BSU would also have come along if the AAC made them all conf members. Soooo....it would seem the AAC would have had them both if Aresco allowed that.

I really like what Aresco is trying to put together. Air Force, Colorado State is a good starting point. Lets hope this goes our way with San Diego State and Boise falling in line.

I like what Aresco is doing too. But you know that old saying, I think that’s what is happening here.

I feel like negotiating with them directly has been seemingly fruitless for a number of reasons. So the next tactic is to show them an opportunity they can’t possibly refuse. Start putting the puzzle together and once it’s all together see if they come forward. If they don’t, at least you have something solid in place.

How much does the already smaller MWC TV payout get by losing CSU and AFA. It's not staying the same I'm sure. Those are two of their more (not most) valuable properties.

Another reason why SDSU and Boise should be heavily considering it

RE: Looks like CSU and Air Force have interest in AAC
While I still doubt that CSU and AFA make this move, SDSU going was a non-starter before the recent AAC defections, and certainly is now. The same goes for Boise at this point.

As for this move, if it happens, it is about as good as Aresco could have hoped. He gets a Western Division, and can add UAB as well as potentially UTSA or Army. That hardly makes up for what was lost, but is good for the narrative and messaging.

Regarding the MW losing AFA, God bless them. As I have always said, the ceiling on Service Academy football is low. In my opinion, they are like the proverbial fly in the ointment. They can beat you, naw at you, injure you, but never bring the conference up. AFA has not mattered in football since Fisher Deberry left, and has been a drag in basketball for decades, minus a few years under Joe Scott.

Losing CSU would be disappointing. While they have been down in football, they have a high ceiling, and great locale.

My guess is, AFA and CSU stay where they are at, and the Zags come to the MW, but time will tell.

But the Mountain West is already looking to replace them with North Texas and Tulsa. And if Tulsa says no, then it will be UTSA or UTEP, so the losses could still be negligible as far as markets.
