RE: Belt Better Off No Matter What?
The Sun Belt has risen based on performance. I really don't want to add any schools that aren't committed to at least trying to compete in the Sun Belt. Rice just doesn't say "winner" to me. UTSA has much more potential to be a real long term solid program IMHO.

Would love to have ECU (not happening but they are a cultural fit with football and baseball taking the cake), Marshall, USM, and UTSA.
Adding ECU, Marshall, and USM would immediately add like seven rivalry games to the schedule for the Sun Belt and would help Gill in selling the Sun Belt to ESPN advertisers.
UTSA would be a long-term add, but it would be cool to see some of the eastern Sun Belt schools recruit Texas, or at least leverage our visibility there for something positive.

I just don’t see the reality of Rice joining the Sun Belt nor their fans wanting that move.

Belt Better Off No Matter What?
I don’t like the thought of adding a bad football program to comfort another bad football program.
No to Rice.

RE: Belt Better Off No Matter What?
Rice only makes the move out of desperation.
They will likely stay with whatever is left of CUSA. Seeing it looks like CUSA may lose up four they may just sit at ten. And if Marshall stays then they just need to add one. It would be interesting to see in JMU would want CUSA or SBC in that situation.
UAB (AAC)
UTSA (AAC)
USM (SBC)
Marshall (SBC)
Of course if MWC takes two from CUSA, then it gets interesting.

If the main reason we haven't been interested in Liberty is that they are a private school while all our current members are public Universities, we should stay consistent with that and look at UTSA or UNT before Rice.

Rice makes the presidents happy. The presidents approve the athletic budget and vote on membership so I’m fine with making them happy.
Personally I’m fine with any two out of Marshall, FAU, WKU, USM and probably can be convinced others are acceptable

My understanding is WKU/MTSU are attached at the hip (isn't that part of the reason why WKU got into CUSA was because of the Raiders wanting them in the league with them?)

WKU was the last school added due in part to MTSU and Marshall in trying to even out the divisions. The west was already set with UTSA, UNT, and LaTech all joining in 2013 to add to Rice, UTEP, and USM, and UAB
ECU, Tulane, and Tulsa left in after the 2013 season, so CUSA needed to add two east division schools because USM was shifting to the west and the Tulane replacement was also going to be in the west as well.

Not true, MTSU dashed out the door without WKU and WKU would still be here if Tulsa hadn’t gotten an invite to AAC.

Thank God for WKU that happened and they joined CUSA. Much better basketball conference imo. Gone are the days of WKU dominating the Sunbelt in men's basketball. They actually play in a decent league now. Iron sharpens Iron.

Sun Belt has had an at-large bid since the last time CUSA did. Might want to work on knocking off the rust.

And make no mistake, WKU would gladly return the favor

LOL at a laturd poster bragging about basketball when it’s been 31 years since the last time they went dancing. Yeah, not since 1991. To put it in perspective here are just a few things that also happened in 1991:
—-Mikhail Gorbachev resigns as president of the Soviet Union and the Soviet Union officially ceases to exist
—-Rodney King video surfaces
—-Jeffrey Dahmer is arrested
—-Operation Desert Storm is happening.
Yep. Old Deb knows basketball.
Next they’ll try to say they have a better media deal.
