Wolfe's run vs Michigan in 2005...was it the greatest NIU play of the last 20 years?
Without question an unforgettable run when he went 70-plus yards to the house back in the 2005. Got me to thinking if that was the best play in NIU history in the last 20 years. Fleck's toe-tapper for a TD against Maryland and Drew's pick in the same game have also got to be up. Sheldon high-fiving Randee Drew on the punt return TD vs Toledo in 02 is another great one as is his TD against 'Bama in 03. The INT to seal the MAC title in '12 and Ward's INT vs Iowa also deserve some consideration.

I remember this play like it was yesterday. I was a Freshman at NIU and it's what got me hooked on NIU football. Been a fan ever since.

This has to be it, or at least up there. The greatest feat by NIU Football over the last 20 years is earning the Conference Championship that catapulted the Program to the BCS Orange Bowl.

If not the play that secured that MACC, then a play from that season that set the table to make it possible.

But that was a pretty run by Wolfe.

I will always remember that play because I was at a sports bar talking crap before the game to a Michigan fan and called a 70+ or 75+ yard run (I can’t exactly remember how I worded it) by Wolfe BEFORE the game and the dismissive expression on his face when I said it made me want to punch him in the face and shite down his neck. I was screaming in his face pointing at him with all four fingers of my right hand as Wolfe ran down the sideline. The expression on his face at that point had completely changed. It occurred to him, likely for the first time, that he knew nothing about NIU, had completely underestimated them, and was processing the possibility of loss. Too bad NIU couldn’t hold on for the win, the cocky asshat that I met before the game resurfaced later in the game when it was clear that NIU wasn’t going to be able to pull out the upset.

Wolfe's run is about 3:50 into the video.

Shawun Lurry's pick six against Nebraska was pretty good.

Too many big wins for that to be the best play. His run in Toledo to ice the game that year was better.

Lurry’s pick 6, Sims winner against Ohio, Jimmie’s pick vs Ohio, Stone’s INT to beat Kent State would all be above it.

Depends on what you mean by great. If you mean "big" or "important" then of course others are better. If you mean greatest in that it required a lot of ability, it would be up there (though Wolfe had more difficult runs).

Ah, yes. I reminisced about it in the Big House Saturday, as I have many times before, with the same crew I went with.

Ridiculed by the rural Jackson MI types that game from time we sat down in cheap seats. Swore at, buddy wearing Cubs hat ridiculed, people tapped his hat. My old roommates were spouting back, I kept saying "show some class" to my guys. Then I just hit a point. As soon as Wolfe hit the goal line I turned around and yelled "put that in you $^&'in crack pipe and smoke it. " Deafening silence for a minute or 2, then started up again.

Shortly thereafter security comes, asked for tickets. 2 of us were not in that section. I was one, went at it with guard who said I was swearing and such. I laughed and said something like "really> just me?" Didn't get kicked out, went to seats on 35 on watched rest of seats with older UM alumni.

Best part is I know the person who went to security was a guy around 40 with his son like 7-8 as he got up and left and came back with the security. The 2 NIU guys that stayed behind said the guys behind us swore the rest of game and the guy with his son was not happy but wouldn't point them out.

Nice to see and hear NIU fans in video. The 500 this time were in the top 5 rows. Cheerleaders cheered to no one this time. Classy move UM. Like not even announcing NIU taking field.

Only a couple wise cracks this time, some goofs trying to be funny outside. Not the worst but likely enough to make me never return if NIU played there again. Had enough of their arrogance.
