Dennis Dodd: UAB only non-MWC school being considered by AAC.
Some really salty Herd fans on the CUSA board, and some USM fans schmoozing the Belt board.
In their defense, it's got to be pretty galling to be on the grind for a hundred years only to find yourself worse off than a couple of puppies. Again.
As a UAB fan, did you ever think you'd see the day we'd be waving bye to those guys in the rearview mirror?
Crazy times.

I haven't been following the thread much. Do you think UAB's invite to AAC is a done deal even if they get all of the MW teams that Aresco is pursuing?

Your guess is as good as mine. What I do know is UAB has positioned itself about as well as it can for this moment.

There's not a damn soul posting on the various boards who really knows a damn thing. My personal opinion is that UAB will get tapped by the AAC.
I guess we'll see sometime soon.

Marshall: Must really hurt to be so consistent and still be a question mark. I suspect alot has to do with how difficult it it to get to campus.
From SMiss, could they have picked a worse time to be floundering in FB an MBB?

I think what hurts So Miss and Marshall the most is their academics and their location. UAB playing decent football for the last five years doesn't given us the edge over either of those teams.

But it does. How many conference titles do those teams have in the past 20 years? UCF went to three title games between 2005-2010(winning 2) and look at them now. You can argue flash in the pan all you want, but UAB has invested in the program, and the results of that are starting to show. Also, the AAC has good basketball, and we blow southern Miss out of the water there. Marshall is decent, but which program do you think the AAC would prefer.

In other news, the AAC Board is in a uproar over AF and Colo. St. possibly being interested in joining the conference. Personally, I don't think the MWC would that upset if those were the two schools they would lose, they can be replaced.
The MWC could solve CUSA's Texas problem by inviting any combo of UTSA/UNT/UTEP/Rice and call it a day. Win-win for all three conferences.

If the Texas schools went to the MWC, C-USA would have the so-called eastern league some have been wanting. Might even be able to entice a couple of good sun belt schools to join that rather than other way around.
At worst, you could add Liberty and JMU — two well financed programs that are investing in athletics — and call it a day.
USM
Marshall
Old Dominion
FIU
Western Kentucky
La Tech
MTSU
Charlotte
Liberty
James Madison
That would solve a lot of problems for some people.
As a matter of fact, if the AAC didn’t work out for whatever reason, I would be fine with UAB going here vs current CUSA.

That’s a solid league, and I wish that’s what CUSA 3.0 tried to become instead of what it did.
