Speaking of bylaws, has anyone tried accessing the SBC’s since King Karl retired? Do you think the fans can lobby the SBC and Gill to hand over the super secret password to unlock the SBC bylaws? Or they could just post the bylaws to the SBC website and operate like every other conference we aspire to surpass.

Aren’t they more ‘guidelines’ than laws?

Well the CUSA conference distribution so small I guess that's not really much of a big deal for anybody even in these tight financial times.

It would be $6-8M to exit C-USA.

How exactly? Does a member of the CUSA get over 3M in payouts from the conference per year?
Media rights, FBS playoff money, NCAA credits, what else?
Are there any additional fees to exit early?

Conference payouts have been between 3-4 million yearly.

Forfeit. Kinda the same, though. Less money for operating.

CUSA only managed to collect $6.15 million total in exit fees from UCF, Houston, SMU, Memphis, ECU, Tulane, and Tulsa when they left the conference, so you'll have to forgive most Southern Miss fans for not taking the CUSA exit fee discussion seriously.

Maybe not, but we're talking about the crack CUSA negotiating team that put together the conference's media deal, so my guess is they'll end up paying schools to leave.

Any chance C-USA waives that to downsize? It may be a benefit to them to do so, honestly. It's absurd to me that your exit fees are that high when the value you obtain through playing on CBS Sports Network and Facebook Live is a fraction of that. If anything the value of every school in C-USA has dropped since the last round of realignment due to the leadership of the conference.
I'm also wondering what ESPN is willing to do for the Sun Belt should we make targeted adds that bring eyeballs and lose no one of real importance to the AAC. If we managed to add USM and Marshall, while losing Georgia State, UTA, and UALR, it's a net gain and it's not even close.
USM has a solid foundation from their history and focus on rivalries would help bring eyeballs back to the program, playing on ESPN again should open the door to recruiting and getting you message of where you've been back out there. You get games against Louisiana, Arkansas State, South Alabama and Troy, all regional games that could have some bite.
If USM and Marshall could get over the cost, it's a no brainer.

I think so, especially given the history of CUSA and its failure to collect the exit fees stated in its bylaws.
For USM fans right now it's a battle between our cynicism about USM's luck and our cynicism about CUSA's incompetence. Will we be the first school to have to actually pay the full exit fee??? Or will CUSA fail to collect, as it always has?? Find out at 11!

"Let's make the exit fee big! If anyone leaves it'll be to the AAC, right?"
