What bowls should the new Big 12 pursue?
What bowls would you like/realistically see the Big 12 being aligned with going forward?

RE: What bowls should the new Big 12 pursue?
An equal P5 share in the CFP, with equal shots at all NY6 bowls (or whoever is included in the next go round). Beyond that, keep the Sugar Bowl tie-in (for a best available team) and if that doesn't work, the Cotton, Fiesta, Orange or Peach for a similar tie-in. Beyond that, the Alamo, Armed Forces and Houston Bowls in the Texas footprint are naturals, but we also need Florida-based and Arizona-California Bowls too, so the Russell Athletic and Cheez-it Bowls (at least). personally, I also like the Sun Bowl.

As far as a Florida bowl goes, I think at a minimum the Big 12 secures the one played at UCF.

I hate bowls and hope we go to a 24 team playoff like FCS but if I have to play along.

I smiled at the Bluebonnet bowl, and then my countenance changed as soon as I realized how it aged me.

Texas bowls make sense, possibly Florida bowls and Las Vegas would be great.

S. California and Florida bowls would be good for us midwestern folk. That way we can avoid the snow and sub freezing temps we normally get in January.

RE: What bowls should the new Big 12 pursue?
Just remember that the access bowl system is probably going to go away in the next cycle as we transition to the 6-6 playoff.

I think the Rose, Sugar, Orange, plus one other will be the 4 permanent quarter-final bowl sites.
I expect 2 of the Fiesta/Cotton/Peach to no longer be involved in the playoff system.

I think the Big 12 champ is going to end up falling to wherever the playoff puts them. Most years, I think that will mean participating in a campus site playoff game trying to advance to a NYD/E Bowl.

Texas Bowl in Houston and Alamo Bowl in San Antonio are good for that too. I've enjoyed watching BU play in both. The DFW bowls can get pretty cold.

Within the conference footprint, I think at least 3 Texas bowls and 1 in Florida is a nice place to start. Plus a few outside the footprint as well.

A bowl in Tennessee is ideal. It’ll prob be the liberty bowl since we already have a tie and Memphis will more the likely be with us soon. A Tennessee bowl is within driving distance of wvu/uc and the old big 8 schools

I agree with all of these, but I would also rename the Texas Bowl by bringing back the Bluebonnet Bowl. (But if we don't, that's okay as well.)

Assuming the access bowls become playoff games and are gone. And the top of the top outside of playoffs are highly unlikely.

Liberty vs SEC
Cheez-it in Orlando would be a huge get. if not Cure vs ACC/G5
Texas or Armed Forces
Holiday vs pac
bowl pool.

RE: What bowls should the new Big 12 pursue?
Hanging on to the Alamo Bowl would be great but I think there’s a good chance that one slips away.

The Texas Bowl is a must have, especially if the Alamo is lost.

A DFW bowl is also critical. My preference would be the Armed Forces Bowl, but the First Responder would be acceptable. Both would be fine too.

Keeping the Cheez-It (ORL) would be nice but I think they could make due with the Gasparilla (TB) or Cure (ORL).

Liberty would also be nice to maintain but I could see Memphis pushing to make that the AAC’s premier bowl. If the Liberty is lost, Birmingham or Independence would be okay.

Guaranteed Rate (PHX) against the Big 10 will probably be retained—I don’t see anyone trying to steal it.

If the Sun Bowl is shopping itself, they might not be a bad grab, especially if they can get a P5 match.

RE: What bowls should the new Big 12 pursue?
Remember, once the CFP expands to 12, Bowl interest for those outside of it will continue to wane.

You even have players SKIPPING NYD6 Bowl Games so imagine what it will be like for players AND fans who are not playing in the CFP.

Some bowls will still be somewhat attractive for Upper Midwest Teams/Fans (and WVU) looking to go somewhere warm for the holidays but outside if that, you won't see a lot of fans traveling 1,500 miles to watch their 8-4 or 7-5 team play.

I think you go after all of the best available, knowing most will not happen. Main thing if guaranteed playoff spots happen, you want the rest to be considerably better than the AAC's and the rest of g5. It needs to be clear B12 is on a different level then the rest.
Cheeze-it, Alamo, and Liberty and possibly Holiday would do that. The G5 will have no primary tie ins to that level of bowl games.

In orlando, the Middle bowl Cheese it, is the one that would be great add.

I think all the middle tier bowls need to be targets.

There isn't one played at UCF. They already have a tie in with the 2nd tier bowl(Cheese it?) played at the Citrus Bowl.
