USC football
Oh to have endless money.
Interesting that USC felt it necessary to make a change just two games into the season after one upset loss. Despite being in his seventh year, Clay Helton (was obviously no Marc Montgomery) got dumped with a 42-28 record and it's a safe bet that cornerbacks coach Donte Williams will be nothing more than just an interim coach, thus sparking the rumor mill.
Top of the list Penn State's James Franklin, who was still at Vandy when Jim Phillips and Joe Novak tried talking him into NIU before getting Jerry Kill.
Others mentioned: Alabama OC Bill O'Brien, Iowa State's Matt Campbell, Cincinnati's Luke Fickell, Oregon's Mario Cristobal, Minnesota's PJ Fleck, Rutger's Greg Schiano, and Clemson OC Tony Elliott. And from the booth, Fox personnel Chris Petersen (ex-Boise State) and Bob Stoops (ex-KSU, ex-UF, ex-OU).

The current USC AD was the AD who hired Fickell at Cincinnati.

Good catch, didn't know that and I suspect article author Pete Thamel forgot as well.
