RE: Sunbelt and MWC schools aren’t expansion candidates
I'd be interested to know about AAC voting potential.

Do you feel the following AAC schools would block the corresponding candidates?

1. Memphis blocks Arkansas State
2. Tulane blocks Louisiana Tech & Louisiana-Lafayette
3. SMU blocks North Texas
4. East Carolina blocks Appalachian State
5. South Florida blocks Florida Atlantic & Florida International

Is blocking power overrated? You hear about it often when in-state or nearby schools to current members are involved as expansion candidates.

As a Tiger fan, I strenuous object to Ark St because they offer nothing for Memphis and are dangerous. Red Wolf fans should take my objection as a compliment.

i think usf will be against any Florida addition... i think smu will be against any texas addition (except rice)

i think ecu would be fine with app state.. ark state isn't on the aac radar, if they were Memphis likely wouldn't care... Tulane unlikely to care about those other louisana teams to block them

RE: Sunbelt and MWC schools aren’t expansion candidates
I’d suspect we look for new states or markets. I doubt we go into the same states were already in.
FAU and FIU have no viewership. It’s not just that we already have USF but more so, adding them doesn’t add eyeballs.

Army, Marshall, Liberty (unfortunately) all have decent viewership numbers. Most of the schools on everyone’s lists don’t.

You then have to get into the question of do you take a competitive team like App St, which is in a tiny market and lower viewership than our conference ate ECU? Do we want to risk harming ECU? If we don’t think it will hurt them, then do we take a competitive small market team or do we invest in a much larger market like Charlotte, who’s BBall has been decent?

Ultimately, I think the answer is to go into new states. Grab teams that are already doing well and will increase if added.
Right now, based on viewership and the fact that they are the number 2 team in their state… I got to say Marshall is the only non MWC team that I think has a good chance. Eyeballs matter.

If we’re gonna accept Marshall’s academics, then maybe we balance it with Rice. They are a development addition, like most would be, but they have a market, and if motivated they have some wealthy alumni who could invest in them…. And their academics are sexy. Add them out west with Tulane and SMU, that will keep Navy happy, who we can afford to lose.

And I still say we make a run at Army, and then Air Force. Hard to get but not impossible.

RE: Sunbelt and MWC schools aren’t expansion candidates
Don't believe MWC schools are off the list. I'm thinking 2× the MWC media payout would mean enough to cause them to accept invites under favorable conditions - low/no entry fees. It’s the same logic & unknowns that the AAC schools face that accepted invites to the B-12. What's the contract $$ after UT/OU leave? What's the value if Boise & Memphis or someone leaves the new AAC for the B12? And the answer is - much more than you're making now. And there is safety in numbers. I see 4 MWC schools coming & 2 from the east. And that scenario insures the AAC remains #6 by diminishing the MWC & 1-2 conferences east. This approach is very compelling & it costs ESPN virtually nothing. The AAC now, with security that even if 2 more schools leave, the AAC will remain the best alternative outside of the P5.

Based on the posts of BigHouston, Attack and Pesik, they want us to add teams which will cause us to fail. Seems strange since we helped you succeed.

OK, I have got to ask, what is the AAC contract worth after Houston, Cincinnati and UCF leave? Again, the Big12 didn't take your worst 3 schools ,right?

the opposite....

1st off me and attack have completely opposite ideas on teams...we don't even align

he says "win now" team (App state , la tech, Louisiana type teams)..maximize the immediate tv deal

i say long-term potential teams (ga states, umass charlotte type teams, doesn't have to be these) and infuse them with tons of tv exposure and the aac branding..
if they arent great in the short term- easy wins to make smu look better for the next realignment (i think on per-team basis {after divided 10-12 ways}, i don't think the tv money will be that much different no matter who is added)

if you are stuck in the aac, you want teams that can challenge the big 12 at some point .. sure these teams cant compete with the big 12 short-term but maybe can in the future, but who has a path to 50k fans and 4star recruits in 10years . I like the school with 54k enrollment, in a mega recruiting hotbed, in a metro of 6million people

we arent even preaching the same message .... and i think you are referencing the fact that both of us have referenced rice. no one is advocating for rice, but noting the presidents will strongly consider them based on the past

Rice will not be voted in. Count on it. Our President almost lost his job preaching for them the last Big 12 go around.

The AAC will take the MWC 4 best & the best from 2 eastern conferences, all of which are individually worth more than their conference avg.
