Big XII looking to become the Big XVI
Hear me out.

It's been reported that the Big XII are now looking at possibly adding 2 more teams. What I now believe is that the Big XII looked at the possible scheduling format proposed by the SEC on their 16 team model and saw gold.

I believe they will look to add two more schools to add with UC, Houston and UCF and I believe thy are hoping they all join along with BYU. This would push their conference to 16 teams total and then when UT and OU depart, they will add their final two members.

What do you guys/gals think?

1, They will gain additional Brands and expand their footprint.

2, The 4 Div/Pod format provides for a 9 game conference schedule which is controlled by the conference and thus sellable.

3, It also provides for more local rivalries and lessens travel costs annually.

4, That along with the added Basketball teams would greatly enhance their chances of adding multiple bids to the tourney each year.

Heard you. You want to be in the LittleBig16. Your dream is not a particularly interesting topic for an AAC message board, frankly.

Awww did I offend you? I don't recall posting anything about my school being involved. Frankly, unless we get an OCS PDQ, we're out. 07-coffee3

If they want to get to 16 then they need to add 4 not 2.

They won't add that last two until TU and OU leave. That's just my guess though.

If they lose TCU and Houston to Pac 12 they would have to add 6 in that scenario.

But then it's another 24-27 months before those other schools could be added. Unless TX and OU leave soon. I would think They would announce before they leave

Lots of wish casting here. My perfect scenario..... Memphis stays strong in basketball and football. USF gets its head out of it ass and builds a quick stadium similar to UCF that can be expanded down the road. The steel construction. Would be quick. They also turn the football team around to be bowl eligible. Invite both when Texas and Oklahoma officially leave.

USF is too stubborn so they will sit back and watch other teams advance. They could of built a ucf or fau type stadium years ago.

RE: Big XII looking to become the Big XVI
So add Boise, SDSU one of Memphis/USF and ... one more western school (Colo St, AF, New Mex, UNLV...)

WAC pod = BYU, Boise, SDSU and final western school
SWC pod = Tech, Baylor, TCU and Houston
Big 8 pod = Kansas, Kansas St, Iowa St and Okla St
Big East pod = West Va, Cincy, UCF and Memphis/USF

Only problem is Okla St wants to stay with the Texas schools.

I’ve read somewhere that the current media contract caps them at 14. When OUT happens, they go 2 more….maybe another 2 in ‘25 with a new media contract

I think they add 2 more, but not 4.

2 and it’ll be Memphis and Boise. Can’t miss. Games in 3 time zones and lots of inventory and massively undercuts any p6 argument. Dodd had mentioned criteria was ny6 bowls for all candidates not named byu.

I'm just hoping that the big12 will come to a quick decision on which two and go ahead and make the invites. Then just make the join date pending what ever date that OU and Texas agree to leave.

Great idea except that SDSU hasn’t made the cut ever. Not in 2016 and not in 2021.

People keep pushing this false narrative that the Big 12 is going west. Outside of Boise, I don’t see them going west at all… and SDSU isn’t, hasn’t been and won’t be a candidate.

Watch out for Tulane. They may very well crawl into that conversation. I can defiantly see Boise, Memphis, USF and Tulane.

If there is a Big 16, then I hope it will be:
EAST - UCF,, USF, Cincinnati, WVU/ Memphis, Houston, TCU, SMU.
WEST - Boise, BYU, TTech, Baylor/ OSU, Kansas, KState, Iowa St.
You can easily put into Pods if they want...and maybe switch Baylor and TCU so everyone gets a game in Dallas.

To those who believe the Big XII is planning to expand to 14 or 16:

Why are they not doing it now?

Also don’t think that PAC 12 is not going to make some moves… BiG 12 is in transition and the other big 3 are going to make some moves to get to 16-18 so essentially Big 12 will be fluid …

I feel like ACC is going to shift around too.. and between BIG 12 and ACC some shifting will happen… possibly more privates to ACC and Public’s to BIG 12

Because the current contract is apparently capped at 14 teams. That came up when we all were chasing in 2016. It's a result of the renegotiation when Missouri and A&M left.

So for now, until they negotiate a totally new contract, they can't add anybody else until TX and OU leave. And then only 2 more, until they do a new deal. And they are talking about extending the current contract (which goes until 2025) 5 years, so 14 may be the limit for awhile.
