Rivalry Week 2025
By 2025, Oklahoma and Texas should for sure be gone. What should rivalry week look like?

Would the Big 12 be better off going the non-traditional route and spreading those games throughout the season in a featured GOTW format?

RE: Rivalry Week 2025
Honestly I'm having a hard time coming up with 6 rivalry matchups

UC/WVU
KU/KSU
Baylor/TCU

Those are the obvious ones, but the other games are a little tougher.

Tech/OSU
UH/UCF
BYU/ISU

Not quite as exciting. Problem really comes from how isolated BYU and UCF are. Right now they don't really have any natural rivals in the league. Though I wouldn't mind seeing a BYU/UH rivalry emerge. Cougar Cup!

RE: Rivalry Week 2025
Iowa St and UCF are the tricky ones to place.

You could put Houston with Texas Tech (TX public vs TX public) or BYU (Cougars vs Cougars)

BYU is probably going to look at Houston and TCU as their new rivals.

Iowa St probably still views the Kansas schools as their biggest rivals.

WVU/OK St/Houston need to play the Dana Holgerson Trophy lol.

Oh god, how would that work? Does the winner or loser get stuck with him? 03-puke

BYU will probably play a BSU or Utah the 1st year and have it count as a conference game at least according to Bowlsby.

RE: Rivalry Week 2025
The Big 12 offers Houston some renewed rivalries.

From a Houston fan perspective I can tell you there is allot of bad blood toward Baylor dating back to 1995 when Ann Richards and Bob Bullock substituted Houston for Baylor in the Big 12. But most Baylor fins are oblivious to this and are very cordial toward UH. Baylor holds a 14-13-1 advantage but not played since the Southwest Conference. Houston gave Art Biles to Baylor which made them good in Football after many years of not being good. But after the scandals this is kind of like an unattractive guy somehow sleeping with a playboy playmate and being elated until finding out she gave him herpes.

Houston has played Oklahoma State 20 times, 3 times since 2000. Houston holds a 10-9-1 advantage including winning last 2 of 3. The last being 2009 when Oklahoma State was #5 with Dez Bryant and UH messed up their season. https://www.espn.com/college-football/ga...=292550197

Houston holds an 18-14-1 advantage over SWC rival Texas Tech but the Red Raiders have won the last 4. all close games except 2021. The Tortillas are predisposed to dislike "Cougar High" as they call it and vice versa so this works out as a decent rivalry.

Houston holds a 13-12 advantage over SWC rival TCU but the Horn Frogs have won the last 8 including when they were in C-USA together. Houston vs Metroplex angle here.

Houston has been playing Cincinnati and UCF since 1995 as the schools were in C-USA, Big East/AAC together.

BYU Cougars vs Houston Cougars

Agree! Except I would position it this way:
Tech v Houston
TCU v Baylor
KSU v KU
Cincinnati v WVU
OSU v ISU
BYU v UCF
Western division v Eastern division

Maybe open conference play with them in case they meet up again in the conference championship

So true - competition will definitely create new rivalries. Now in our case when it comes to a top rival we clearly have our in-state partners down the road. But other rivalries will spring up over time based more on games than mere geography.

Kansas/Kansas State
Iowa State/Oklahoma State
Cincinnati/West Virginia
Houston/Texas Tech
TCU/Baylor
UCF/Memphis
BYU/Boise State

Maybe West Virginia can play Pitt and UCF/USF so Memphis/Cincinnati can pair up.

Ya, gotta start thinking like this. There will be some non-conference games here, especially as the "Alliance" reconsiders it's late season scheduling.

Iowa-Iowa State
Kansas-Kansas State
Oklahoma-OK State
Texas Tech-Texas
TCU-Baylor
Utah-BYU
UCF-USF
WVU-Cincy
Houston-???
For those last two, you might be able to get Memphis and/or Pittsburgh into the mix... but I actually see UCF dropping USF, making things even. Because BSU is not alliance/P5, BYU will not choose to close the season with them.

Texas will likely be playing A&M that weekend, so let's go ahead and play Tech rivalry week.
