Mountain West Conference statement
Could the MWC be considering adding 2-4 Texas teams to create a little Texas pod? Or is this a "hands off" message to the AAC?

They have secrets and they aren’t telling what they are. That’s what I got out of it. The MW has Tulsa and TCU for a while, so going that Far East isn’t beyond their comfort zone.

Mountain West setting at 11 full members plus Hawaii as football only. Could they target SMU as a full member and then add a football only (NMSU or North Dakota St) to try to overtake the SBC and much weaker American?

If I’m the MWC and looking at SMU, I’m taking UTEP as well. It kills several birds. It gets them back into Texas, adds another front range school and a huge market, revives some traditional rivals, and takes another notch out of the AAC and CUSA’s basketball pedigrees.

I like that thought, always thought UTEP was a better fit in the MWC anyway.

This could easily be interpreted as "we know one of our member institutions is leaving, but we're still a good conference and going to grab someone else."

While you're reading tea leaves it could also be read as the ACC is in real trouble and we don't give a ****.

Lotta talk about what the American is going to do I don’t think there’s been enough emphasis as to what-if any move- Mwc might make

If they do, goodbye AAC. There's reason to believe that a few teams might be willing to an AAC even without its Big 3. If you take SMU/Tulsa/Memphis out, than the AAC is dead, and the SBC and CUSA will likely cherry pick the remaining pieces.

Why would the ACC be in trouble?

The SBC's recent growth has to be concerning to the MWC. Western Schools simply because of later time zones already get less media coverage than those in the Central and East. Picking up SMU/Memphis/Tulsa makes them stronger and gets them into the Central Time Zone

However, given the large number of former WAC members in the MWC, I am not sure they'd support going larger than 14.

RE: Mountain West Conference statement
Could be BIG12 taking another 2 as has been hinted is happening sooner rather than later and Boise is being targeted. What that means for the AAC & MWC future moves who knows. Maybe they merge but the AAC east coast schools wouldn’t make a lot of sense in that development. The Western schools would fold in nicely. Maybe they leave the eastern schools the aac to rebuild an eastern conference with negotiations regarding exit fees and conference coffers.

Not sure if this link will work. Old guy at work. :)
Darn! Tweet about expanded AAC/MWC “merger” of sorts.

I'm pretty decent at reading tea leaves and think this was supposed to be AAC.

Memphis and Boise go to BIG 12 and SMU goes MWC. Belt takes 2 from either AAC or CUSA. CUSA is screwed and STILL at the bottom of the G5. The best part is La Tech will still be in CUSA and all those that jumped ship from the Belt for greener pastures.

My guess is that MWC isn’t likely to lose anyone unless B12 chooses to go to 14
