The 400k check from UVA surely meant something.

Two points...

"the game has absolutely zero impact on either team’s overall rankings" - Playoff rankings for W&M are impacted by a victory over a Power 5 team and National Ranking of a Power 5 is impacted by a loss to an FCS team. Witness Montana's victory over #20 Washington last weekend.

"FCS teams can only have 63 players on scholarship, while FBS football teams can have 85 players." - FBS has 85 scholarships and they must be full scholarships. FCS can have 85 players on full or partial scholarships not to exceed 63 full scholarships. An FCS school could have 42 on full scholarship and 42 on half for 84 players on scholarship.

And this season FBS can have more than 85 and FCS can have more than 63, the extra year because of COVID allowed last years seniors to come back for another season.

I'm pretty sure that the game mattered to the players.

The quibble I have is that if the article was directed at "casual fans" then why was it posted here? There are no casual fans on this board (and certainly not in a football thread).
