RE: Bearcat Football Feature
Great article!
I prefer not to advertise for paywall sites here, but if anyone has access to the Athletic, there's also a great feature on Marcus Freeman there. It includes some pretty interesting stuff you might not have guessed about previous assistants and Coach Fickell in particular. Lots of talk in the comments about what-ifs regarding hypothetical future openings at ND, OSU and UC as often discussed around here.

Amazing article, thanks for posting
Quote:The CFP committee created a glass ceiling for the Bearcats at No. 7 last year, when Cincinnati stalled out in the rankings before the committee began brand-shaming the Bearcats by twice dropping them below a pair of teams with multiple losses. Undefeated Cincinnati finished No. 9 in the final regular season CFP poll behind three-loss Florida and two-loss Oklahoma.
That quote there is what is wrong with college football.
You are exactly correct. I listened to the ESPN College Football podcast with Rece Davis and David Pollack the other day and Rece called out the fact that not only does UC need to win on Saturday but they have to win impressively, he also called out that it's unfair and a double standard but it's the sad reality of the situation.
Saturday's game intrigues me in regards to how the rest of the country without rooting interests will view the game. Will they support the Bearcats who are looking to strike a blow for the G5 and overall parity in the sport? Or will they root for the establishment, Notre Dame, to snuff out any hope that a newcomer might have?
I know there's still so much to play for after this game, even if the Bearcats come up short, but the thought of going potentially 12-1 and getting relegated to a crap bowl just grinds my gears. Gosh I hope the Bearcats can pull this one out.
If we win tomorrow, it will only be viewed as a positive step if Notre Dame finishes their season with 1 loss. If ND were to go and lose 2-3 more games after this, this win will be no better than the Indiana win in the minds of the committee. AT the end of the year they'll say that you don't deserve the playoff because you didn't play anyone good.

RE: Bearcat Football Feature
Well this seems to have flown under the radar but Thamel wasn't the only writer to do a big feature on UC/Fickell this week. The LA Times seems to be making their own recruiting pitch to Fickell just in time to capitalize on the ND game hoopla.
Could USC ever be coaching paradise for Luke Fickell and his proud Ohio family?
By the way, I seldom talk like this but "F%&@ John Cooper!" He always seemed very unlikeable to me. To even things out let me also say "God bless Amy Fickell!" She seems awesome!
