Monday's musings labor day
Here we are Monday afternoon enjoying a long weekend and a emu win all while ignoring covid.
Good crowd, good start for the eagles Friday night on to Wisconsin who did not look good (beer is full)
Beer half empty The rest of division looking good with NIU beating forever rebuilding GA Tech (great hype videos ****** win percentage)
CMU being competitive down in mizzou without their head coach.
WMU did not look good uofm is their kryptonite.
Coach Creighton got a new contract although not that long does not appear to have a 9 win and extend clause.

Dear fanfrompowellspub,
I've always wanted to ask you, if you were around when Powell's Pub was known as the Huron Inn?
A win is always better then a loss, but how good is Northern Illinois, If Georgia Tech is a wreck?
Too bad that Western did not play better then the score indicates, but always glad to see Central lose.

Wisconsin out-gained PSU and lost the game on turnovers. In my opinion, they were clearly the better team. That is the worst possible outcome from our perspective. The Badgers are going to be pissed off and we get them in Madison. Not good. The U-M team that just demolished WMU lost to Wisconsin last year by 38 POINTS! I only want a respectable performance with no injuries, anything else will be icing on the cake.

Oh bye the way Ken, the Huron Inn became George's Huron Inn owned by an administrator at YPS. The current owner is Tony Thompson, a fabulous guy who resides in the 48197 zip code as well. I patronize his establishment when I can as a result.

I have only known it as Powell's. As a commuter I would walk there when I had a long break from classes to study and have a pint. Still go on wing night once in a while but with the pandemic do not go out as much. Powells is a bipolar bar. Loyal local regulars by day and a college bar by night.

I remember it as George's Huron Inn. It's my understanding that it was named such because EMU's former head of Alumni Relations, George Beaudette, was born upstairs there. Might be an old wives tale from those days (George was a colleague when I worked at EMU), but it's a story I've believed from the first day I walked into the place.

I think both NIU and Wyoming fans are looking at tomorrow's game as a litmus test. Is NIU actually fairly good or is Ga Tech that bad? Is Wyoming's close win against an FCS team an indication of trouble for them? We'll find out tomorrow.

RE: Monday's musings labor day
When I think of Labor Day I think of organized labor, and the beginning of school. When I was a young one we started school the day after Labor Day.

Since this site really isn't concerned much about elementary school, let's fast forward to those high school kids enrolling in college early, Jalen Duren and Emoni Bates.

Memphis enrolled last month two of the top three members of the original class of 2022, Bates #1 and Duren #2 or 3.

Just glad we didn't schedule Memphis... Memphis and their 'diaper dandies' will be a big storyline for '21/'22 season.

Dear steve,
I bet Emoni Bates does not stay at Memphis. I think he will jump to the pros, as soon as his father tells him the time is ripe.

Yeah, but Ken, remember there is an age requirement for the NBA draft, G-League, etc.

Until he is 19 he can play college hoops or sit. Can't go to the G-league until he is draft eligible.

Why would he? He is getting paid $$$ with his FedEx deal and he gets to play against college kids, enjoy the college life.

This might rank in the Top 10 of my irrelevant posts:

Actually, I do remember one of our posters mentioning cornhole. Don't think I had heard of it before. Now there will be a league...
