RE: 2021 FBS NIU-Lite Game Discussions
Just a quick ncaa rule check- anything above the face mask is considered the “crown”. And defenseless is someone who, oddly enough, has no ability to protect themselves from the defender. Targeting also doesn’t have to be helmet2helmet but anything above the shoulder.
I don’t think he was defenseless. Very close but I think he had ability to turn at the last second. But targeting by rule IMO should have been called. Definite “crown” Contact above the shoulder.

The side of his helmet hit the guy in the back of the helmet (or neck.) It appears to be the debate was forceful contact with the crown.
In my mind, he was taking steps, saw the defender, lowered his head. He wasn't defenseless.
They need to do a better job of writing rules. It's like anything with laws, rules, etc. A lawyer someone can find a loophole.

I thought the point the broadcasters made was spot on. Change the rules to get rid of the ejections and missing first half of next game, unless it is something really egregious. Then you throw the 15 yd flag on that hit as "unnecessary" and move on....

RE: 2021 FBS NIU-Lite Game Discussions
The biggest outcome of the no-call was the change of possession. That was huge and ended any chance of a come back(probably no chance anyway, but still). You don’t get knocked out without banging helmets. IMO it should have been incidental contact to the head. Personal foul added on to the catch. Minnesota retains possession and the defender only gets a standard personal foul, no suspension. The suspension stuff should be for launching.

A defenseless player got hit in the head, it’s textbook targeting. It also probably didn’t matter anyways, but yeah.

The real winner in all this; me. After 10 years I finally figured out how to add a photo to my posts. Annoyance level for everyone else at a full 10 now.

Look I won $$$ on Ohio State yesterday - so there are multiple winners here.
Nice job with the pictures. Looking forward to a portfolio of images!

I could see the call going either way. I'm OK with the no call. What I'm not OK with the guys in the booth completely abandoning calling the game. They spent a good 5 minutes doing nothing but spouting their opinions. If I were the shows producer, I would have muted the one guy's Mic.

Michigan State looks really good tonight vs Northwestern. I really hope the QB wasn’t the main reason they were so bad last year...

Thorne played last year too, and his #'s mirrored Lombardi's almost exactly. The difference in the game tonight was that transfer running back.

Yup. They run a "pro style"...whatever that is anymore...and those simply do not work without a solid back and O-Line.
It's not a QB friendly system without any kind of running game.

WMU is more than holding their own against Michigan. Maybe it’s a week 1 thing or maybe we have a good shot at stealing one in the big house sept 18th.

Rod getting a nice pounding from the mighty Rutgers. Looks like his system hasn’t been working the greatest in Philly as they were pretty good when he took over and slowly gone down.
