Monday musings Game week
As the heat and humidity hopefully leave Michigan we enter week 1 of the NCAA football season. For Steve and my other fans here are some musings.
EMU opens at home on a Friday night of labor day weekend in a pandemic vs a FCS opponent. I do not anticipate a big crowd.
Covid Delta numbers continue to creep up as students across the state go back to college and if cases rage they could get sent home again, although colleges need $$ so....
Yes our rivals are better then us, they recruit better players. This could be the year Creighton morphs into Murphy...
Thompson Block restaurant is open with southern style comfort food. Have not tried it yet but menu looks good. Have tried bell flower in the ally by the closed down deja vu which I know no members of this forum have ever been too...
bell flower is good, so is red rock, still sad beezys closed. Go eagles!

This is the 5th Monday of August, bonus edition... Kind of like getting that 25th and 26th bi-weekly paycheck and you are thankful the banks doesn't say you owe 13, just 12, mortgage payments each year...
As far as the 'substance' of your post, I'm not sure that C.C. is getting out recruited.
We are in the 'fat part' of that so-called bell normal curve where there are a bunch of MAC teams lumped together and coaching, not recruiting, is separating the winners from the losers.
As far as attendance is concerned, I'm not sure Covid is having much effect. I don't see any hard evidence that people are avoiding outdoor events.
I'm going to guess a decent sized crowd. The first game of the season is always much anticipated.

If EMU is not getting out-recruited then we are getting out coached. If we want to throw away last year I am okay with it.. My message is this is a big year for EMU football to take a step forward or regress. My concern with EMU football recruiting is the lack of play makers on the offensive side of the ball which many MAC teams have that make the MAC high scoring and fun.

The offense was decent last year. I expect it to better this year. Our defense was horrible last year. It should improve.

I hear you, BUT recruiting is say a 3-year cycle, meaning, last year or year before, we won (or lost) with players we recruited 3 or 4 or 5 years ago.
Our recruiting improved a lot the last few years which should show up NOW.

We are recruiting on the same level as the rest of the MAC and we coach on the same level as the rest of the MAC - that's why we've been in that .500 range the last few years (excluding last season obviously)
