RE: 2021/22 Sports
Rough go last week for Womens soccer as they fell to Hofstra 2-0 and to Towson 2-1 and are now 5-7-3 (1-4-2)

Field Hockey lost to JMU 6-1 and UVA 4-1 and are now 5-13 (2-3)

Mens soccer had a big time win over Northeastern and move to 7-6-1 (2-2-2) and continue their rollercoaster season

Edit:
For this week:

Women's soccer head north for NU and then home against Elon
Field Hockey faces Delaware Friday and Bucknell Sunday
Men's soccer has a tough task at JMU Saturday

RE: 2021/22 Sports
the women won 2-1 in 2OT. They are now 6-7-3 (2-4-2). They finish Sunday against Elon. There is no chance of making the CAAT for them

The men really need a result (tie or win) to keep their CAAT hopes alive. Both us and NU play JMU, Elon plays Hofstra. Right now we are chasing Elon and tied with NU. We will beat Delaware, NU likely beats CofC and Elon has W&M which looks favorable toward Elon. With us a point behind, that makes it tough sledding unless we get a point against JMU this weekend

RE: 2021/22 Sports
Field hockey lost to Delaware 7-3 and then beat Bucknell 2-1 yesterday. They finish at 6-14 (2-4)

Mens soccer fell 1-0 at JMU and are now 7-7-1 (3-3-1). However UNCW fell to W&M, so with W&M and Elon facing off to end the season I think we are now eliminated from making the CAAT since W&M has the tiebreaker over us and we are a point behind Elon. It can be really muddy if NU loses to JMU and we end in some ties. Competitive season though, our up and downs seemingly were too much.

Womens soccer fell to Elon 2-1 in OT and finish 6-8-3 (2-5-2)

Tough fall season overall

Edit: From looking closer I think the men have an outside shot at the 4 seed. We have to beat Delaware for starters, which better be easy. Then we need UNCW to lose to Hofstra (current #1) and need NU to fall to JMU (current #2). Then regardless of the result of Elon and W&M we would be in since we beat both UNCW and NU. We would be 4-3-1, so would NU. UNCW would be 4-4 and we would pass one of Elon/W&M and we would jump from 7th into 4th

RE: 2021/22 Sports
For those Men's Soccer scenarios, JMU is expected to be banned from CAA Tournaments because they are leaving. The decision was too late to ban them from the Women's Soccer Tournament, which starts today, but they are banned from the Men's Soccer Tournament. They are eligible for the CAA Football's automatic bid, but they are good enough that they don't need it. They cannot win or host team tournaments, but individuals can win CAA titles in sports like Swimming and Diving. JMU said that eight other conferences have teams that announced they are leaving, and none of them ban exiting teams from conference tournaments. They also said that they appealed the CAA's bylaw to the other school presidents, and their appeal failed.

I thought that the ban isn't in place yet because JMU hasn't officially announced that they're leaving. I noticed that JMU is hosting the Men's Soccer championships. And in addition to women's basketball, they are also scheduled to host the women's lacrosse and softball championships.

Correct. If JMU waits as long as the sunbelt allows, some other sports can still participate.

And of course they appealed. As did ODU, GSU and every other leaving school at the time.

If JMU does announce today as expected, I think mens soccer is in as long as 1 of JMU or Hofstra win and W&M/Elon dont tie. If W&M/Elon tie then we would need both JMU and Hofstra to win.

The men won today in 2OT over Delaware and clinch a spot in the CAAT. Delaware went 0-8 and 2-12-1 for the season. Sad it took us 2OT to beat them. But a win is a win. The roller coaster continues

Yeah, I don't follow soccer, so I had not idea about this until today. But I see that Drexel snuck in finishing tied for 5th due to 2nd place JMU being disqualified. I noticed a bunch of butthurt JMU fans crying on Facebook about not qualifying for the tournament.

Their soccer was the one sport where they were probably fine as an at large, though losing the last game to NU hurts their case.

Hofstra won 2-1. You had more shots on goal, 6 to 4. You should be happy with how you played.

We played well. We had one shot go off the post that would have tied it. Good showing against a quality team to end the roller coaster of a season

I know we like to dunk on squash, but the women's squash team finished as the national runner-up this season. As far as I can tell, this has to be the first time one of our varsity squads has played in a national championship game of any sort, right? Even one as niche as squash.

Inquirer wrote a story on it.

I don't dunk on squash. There are only about 40 or so women's collegiate squash programs, almost all of them at elite academic schools. Pretty good company to be in.

Men's soccer in 1958.

RE: 2021/22 Sports
Drexel's women's lacrosse team must have been inspired by the women's basketball team last night. Today, they almost pulled off a miraculous comeback of their own. Drexel trailed #13 Florida 8-1 at halftime today at Vidas Field. Drexel stormed back to score 4 in the 3rd and 4 in the 4th, but fell just short losing 10-9.

dan...are you following the lacrosse team? i had high hopes and was hoping to see some games this year. unfortunately they're 4-5 and have lost three straight. season looks awfully familiar from a certain other men's team who just got done. they've lost 3 or 4 games by 1 goal (just looked at it and already forgot the exact number) and a few more by 2 goals. biggest loss was 4 goals. looks like they're in the mix and just can't get it done. we watched the end of the sju game which they won by a goal.

I do follow them yes. They have definitely been disappointing. But your take on them is spot on. They just cant finish. Close but no cigar.
