Very excited for how they’ve played so far. Hopefully they can get the result against NIU heading into WAC play. Conference record is really what matters.. hopeful they play well enough to earn the spot in the WAC tournament.

#25 ranked GCU takes down Cal Poly on the road 3-2. They are now 5-1 on the season with the only loss to 3rd ranked Washington.

I saw that UVU gave Washington all it could handle in a tough 1-2 loss on Thursday.
Seattle seems to have a strong team as well. They received some votes in the recent rankings.
Chicago State and UNLV also have some big wins already. Should be a great conference season.

RE: WAC Men's Soccer Season Thread 2021
Chicago State plays Northern Illinois, 6-1, on the 21st at home, followed by their first 3 WAC opponents at home as well.

Northern is 4th in the nation in scoring, with lots of goals against some mediocre teams. However, they did beat #18 Marquette 3-0, so they're clearly good.

After that CSU has RGV, AF, and GCU, so we'll soon have a good feel for how the Cougars compare to WAC teams from across the spectrum.

Trying to watch the GCU vs. CSU game on the WAC digital network. There is video but no sound. Did anyone get sound?

So far the game is tied 1-1 at the 65th minute. GCU seems to be dominating but they cannot get another goal. The CSU goalie already has 7 saves. 8 shots on goal for GCU to only 1 for CSU. 10 corners to only 2 for CSU. Yet the score remains 1-1. Soccer can be frustrating at times.

GCU finally gets a second goal!!! CSU is playing their hearts out. They are down a man due to a red card and yet hanging in there. If I wasn't a GCU fan, I'd certainly be rooting for them.

Unfortunately, they’ve been having video only for the games at the SeatGeek complex— the ones not in the actual stadium.

And GCU just tacked on another to go up 3-1 as Chicago State picked up another red card about 20 seconds prior to the goal. That’ll be the game no doubt.

Saw the second red card so I agree that the game is most likely over. Well played game throughout. It was very physical but to me that just shows how much both teams want to win and how they respect their opponent. I hope we do not face CSU in the WAC tournament.

Chicago's losses in conference are to 3 of the top 4 in the conference standings right now, so hopefully they'll get some wins coming up. Next game is Dixie who has only beaten first year D1 UC San Diego in the first game, and has been outscored 25-3 since and has been shut out in 7 of 9 games. And looking at some of the other currently bottom teams, like HBU, (only 1 D1 win, also against a first year D1 program) Chicago State will most likely pick up wins there as well.

GCU ranked #17 nationally. I just hope UTRGV doesn't get wiped out tonight.

UTRGV always has a good team so I expect it to be close. Both teams have scored within the first 10 minutes.

Speaking of rankings, GCU's lone loss is to Washington 2-0. Washington is currently ranked #2 in the country and is receiving some first place votes.

Washington also has wins against Utah Valley and Seattle, both 2-1 wins in overtime.

WAC mens soccer programs are competing well, even against the very top level teams.

Having GCU ranked is great for the conference, and just below them are multiple other teams that's are also high quality teams. Whoever makes the NCAA tournament out of the WAC is going to to be battle tested.

Looks like RGV is trailing GCU at the moment, but I did notice that your early season one goal losses to Central Arkansas and Oral Roberts aren't bad at all since they are both receiving votes for the top 25 currently.

Another loss was to FIU, who is currently a top 20 team and is 7-1-2. RGV lost 4-2, but 2 goals is the most anyone has scored against them this season. In their games versus D1 teams this year, they have only allowed 6 goals total, and FIU has shut out 4 ranked teams so far this season.

5-1 GCU. They are good.

RE: WAC Men's Soccer Season Thread 2021
The WAC is slowly becoming a conference to be reckoned with in Men's Soccer. Here is the current RPI as of Oct. 10th.

Out of 208 DI Schools
GCU = 8
SU = 37
UTRGV = 40
Air Force = 110
CBU = 120
UNLV = 129
San Jose St. = 130
UVU = 137
UIW = 161
CSU = 177
Houston Baptist = 190
DSU = 191

It would be great to get the bottom of the conference all over 150, but having three schools in the top 50 is impressive, with one in the top 10.

How does a team that enters the week ranked 17th, proceeds to defeat two teams 6-0 and 5-1, and has an RPI ranking that places them 8th in the country, end up falling to 25th in the rankings?

Yeah, that's annoying. But just keep winning and it will all come out in the wash. I don't see this GCU team losing many more games this season. Hopefully, a nice post season run too.

GCU goes on the road to win two tough road games this weekend.
2-1 over CBU
1-0 over UVU

With the win over UVU, GCU claims at least a tie for the WAC championship. They play Air Force next week and need only a tie to be the outright champions.

Mens soccer news:

GCU and UVU are both in the top 20 nationally for mens soccer attendance. GCU's largest home crowd was just over 5,000.

GCU is 11th in the RPI. Seattle is 49th. Cal Bap and RGV are 93rd and 94th to round out the WAC teams in the top 100. GCU also ranks between 12th and 17th in the 3 major college soccer polls.

Mens Soccer Tournament coming up.

The 2021 WAC Men's Soccer Tournament will feature the top six teams on November 10, 12, 14 at GCU Stadium in Phoenix. The top two teams in the regular-season standings will receive byes straight to the semifinals.

GCU loses to Air Force (GCU's nemesis it seems) 1-2 this afternoon. Probably won't change the tournament seeding order though. Even if they lose to SU, I think San Jose State finishes in second place. It is hard to tell since they are going off average points and not won-lose record.

The key game today seems to be UTRGV vs. UIW. It looks like the winner gets the 6th seed in the tournament and the loser is out.

San Jose didn't do themselves any favors by drawing with Chicago State at this point in the season. I don't know if a change in seeding would make much difference if it ended up happening, as you would still be 1 or 2 and have a bye. You'd play different teams, but who knows what difference that may or may not make.

I am not sure how the conference tournament works for men. The women have divisions so its different.
