RE: Huskies in the NFL
The NFL is looking for the same kind of potential "diamonds in the rough" that programs like NIU try to find ... but of course at a higher level with some polish. Walter Payton came out of where? Ben Roethlisberger? Michael Turner? Kenny Golladay? Somebody around here can probably name a bunch more.

No NFL team can afford to overlook a guy who might fix a problem, plug a gap, or lead them to the Super Bowl. I haven't seen any figures, but I wonder what the average NFL budget is for scouting, recruiting, tape reviewing, interviewing, draft class study, etc.

Anyway, so tell me again why we're discussing Heflin? Is it because his last college stop was Iowa and we don't want anyone to forget he cut his chops at NIU? Is it because some resent his "best year of my life" comment?

I for one wish him the best. He is where he is and got there how he got there. Others may forget but we won't.

Look, Brah. The kid grew up a Hawkeye fan. He used NIU as a stepping stone to fulfill a dream. I'm sure he's grateful for his time in CornTown. Sorry you're butthurt about it. Best of luck to you moving forward.

The reason Heflin said it was the best year of his life at Iowa is because he wasn't rushed to the hospital with his teammates because their muscle tissue weren't breaking down and kidneys weren't shutting down.

That scandal got swept under the rug real quick.

You must be so proud, Brah.

At the end of the day sounds like he’s at where he wanted to be. I didn’t like that he left NIU. I think it almost derailed is path to the NFL. He would have gotten drafted had he stayed, but he still had to do it the hard way. Wish him the best, now that he’s in the NFL.

That's what we like to believe. But the NFL simply doesn't respect the MAC, production is one thing. But you'll need to be a freak of nature in every other measurable to be a drafted MAC player. He came, he did his time, and he took advantage of leaving. I don't like it, I pretty much hate it, but it's reality unfortunately. I would love for kids to stay, but transferring when you're any good will be more and more common.

Hoping Tyrice Richie will be an example of how staying in a Mid Major worked out.

How about Brinkman?? Have to wonder if he regrets leaving NIU. 15 catches last year on a bad USF team, and after watching just some of the USF/NC State game tonight they aren't any better this year, and he had just a couple targets. He was much more of a focal point at NIU, and USF isn't going to be attracting any more attention than he would have gotten in Dekalb.....

Was it Brinkman who made some great catches in the come-from-behind MACC win over Buffalo in 2018?

Brinkman had one great grab I can recall on a tremendous play by Childers. Brinkman is still at USF. Was the second leading receiver in the big loss last night. He will get about the same opportunity at the NFL from USF as he would have at NIU—-UDFA like Crawford and Wimann.

It was Kramer who didn’t feel the MAC provided enough of a challenge for him.

According to IUs 2-deep he’s back-up at a DT position.

I have not watched the game yet as I watched Alabama/Miami, but a former HS coach and Huskie that I know said Kramer played pretty well. If so, he was clearly one of the very few! I wish him the best, I know I wouldn't want to be forever judged on some of the stupid things I said and did at his age...

Do we still get to claim him as a Huskie player in the NFL or does Iowa get to claim him?

We all know he has way more Huskie Blood running through him. We get to claim him, all day!
He grew up a Hawkeye fan and always wanted to be there!

Did anyone watch the Packers game yesterday? What school did Heflin announce in his introduction for starting lineup players?

I did, but don't recall them doing the starting lineup intros. Plus I don't think he is technically a starter.

Did he play?

It shows Iowa on the packers site. So would assume the same if he ever became a starter.

James Daniels played at Iowa but claimed his HS during starter introductions. Curious if that was a one time shout out or he has a problem with his Alma mater.

Sometimes these NFL players announce other school names, for some unknown reason. For example, Antonio Brown did not announce "Central Michigan University" during his offense introduction during the Tampa-Dallas game last week. I have no clue why he didn't. Did CMU revoke him from campus privileges or something?

Let's just say James Daniels doesn't have the love and affection for Iowa that Heflin has.

Seems like they’ve slowed down with the game start intros except on the national night games.

Personally, I grew tired of the players naming their high school or grade school instead of the college.

It’s pretty cool for us to see Kenny or Max say “Northern Illinois” but it gets tiring hearing Alabama or THE…..every second or third player.

I used to love it back in the old day in both college and pro games when they would list the players heights/weights in a graphic real quick along with their hometowns or colleges.

Instead now we get some douchie feel good story in big games or nothing at all in normal games ...things used to be better in so many GD ways just decades ago.
