According to the UAB football Twitter page, UAB's regular season finale at home against UTEP has been moved from Saturday, November 27 to Friday, Nov. 26 at 1 p.m. CST.

I was hoping for this move, and was hoping it might also include a good TV slot, but not sure that will be possible.

Looking at what is already booked, the MAC already has CBSSN locked in at 11 am, and the MWC has it locked at 2:30.

Guessing UAB-UTEP will be ESPN3 and/or possibly sold to Fox regional (Stadium). Regardless of TV, I think UAB should always play Iron Bowl weekend home games on Black Friday as a traditional thing we do, and promote it bigtime.

Hadn't thought about temperature at night until I saw this post. Great point. Daytime in November is usually pretty comfortable so 1pm makes a lot of sense. Hopefully can snag some of the "well X game is on at 7pm and I'd rather watch that rivalry" too.

Also, the 1:00 kick allows people the option to catch our game, and then catch high school playoff games that night. I think that would be the semi-final round.

I could be wrong, but most people I know are off on the Friday after Thanksgiving. I think this should be a tradition for us -- if we're gonna get stuck with home games against the Iron Bowl.

I hope we will aggressively market this one. Offer UTEP tickets at a 50 percent discount if you buy single games for La Tech or Rice. Offer Family Four Packs for $60 (a 25 percent discount) that include a sponored Tshirt or something. Let season ticket holders purchase extra UTEP tickets for $10 general admission, up to 10 tickets. I know I'd buy a bunch and give them to friends and family. Point being, with this game being on a Friday that many people are off when families tend to gather, it's a chance when you can bring people to games with you that would never otherwise come. Just get them there and show them a good time.

There are 10,300 students from the Birmingham Metro that can still go to the game despite going "home". There are 1,000+ international students and faculty that probably won't be going home in November.

The 1pm kickoff makes a lot of sense, just not for me because I likely wont be back in town from thanksgiving activities until around 4-5pm.

I wonder if something special could be done that day to spike student attendance for those students who are still in town. Free stuff? Fraternity/sorority service points?
