Exclamation How closely does recruiting success forecast winning in Conference USA?
https://www.underdogdynasty.com/conferen...a-football

First off, UAB was given a Team Talent rating of 383.95, slotting them at 11th place in the conference. UAB’s recruits have historically been underrated by the 247 Composite, but this Team Talent rating seems extremely off. Since UAB finished #40 in the nation in SP+, this differential between Team Talent and the final result of the season put 2020 on a weird footing right off the bat.

At the end of the day, the message is clear. If you plan on winning Conference USA you need to either recruit with the best of them, or employ Bill Clark.

I guess I'm greedy but I would like to recruit with the best of them AND employ Bill Clark (for a very long time)!

RE: How closely does recruiting success forecast winning in Conference USA?
He did a nice job and spent a lot of time on it but the reality is, there is practically zero effort spent evaluating G5 recruiting classes. Most recruits in G5 are not evaluated at all or are given the standard 2 or 3 star depending on the service.

Geography plays a big part in G5 ratings. Recruits from heavily recruited states, such as Texas and Florida, tend to be evaluated more, and therefore those prospects are also likely to have more “offers” to inflate ratings even if no one from a recruiting service has spent much time evaluating them. The now common practice some schools take of throw out offers like Santa from the Christmas Parade throws out candy also impacts these ratings.

It is virtually impossible for FIU to have a “bad” class. They are in South Florida. Yet ONE four-star recruit is enough to move a school in G5 up in their league.

Bottom line, recruiting ratings don’t mean jack in the G5. This has nothing to do with coaching and everything to do with incomplete data.

It is even less important now because of transfers.
