Athletic fee increase of $45 brings it to $819 per student with enrollment at about 18,000. $14,742,000 income from student fees if my accounting is right. If we get to 25,000 students(which is the goal) student fees alone would top $20 million using these fees. That would be a pretty substantial athletics budget if you add in ticket sales, sponsorships, etc.

How do our student fees stack up to other UNC schools?

It took a long time to go from 12k to 18k student enrollment. What kind of timeline forecast is there to get to 25k enrollment?

The problem is the athletic landscape is changing at light speed and changes at UNCW are a bit more archaic in speed.

There was never a real desire or a plan to really grow the student population until the last Chancellor and he set the goal of 25k in his first year. In 2010 we had 12,968 students and in 2013(his first year)we had 12,900 so no growth in those three years. For context, we were at 18,000 after his eight years as Chancellor which is an increase of 5100 students and that included massive hurricane damage and the Covid years. Not sure when the goal is, but based on that type of growth it may well be this decade.

Using our current athletic fee, the difference of 5100 students equals $4.3 million in student athletic fees.

It may not be happening as fast as we would like, but contrary to what some people think, we are getting there.

How are adding students? Have we seen a significant increase in applicants, or are we lowering entrance requirements? I'm not strongly opposed to growth, but I valued a smaller student population when I was making my decision.

Not lowering anything acacemically but the demand is increasing dramatically. We are also pushing heavily into community colleges with automatic acceptance based on their academics. Pushing for military students, grads, etc. Also, just drive around the campus. The new dorms are fantastic, the rec fields are now lit with bathrooms and astroturf, and there are new buildings and parking decks everywhere. The library is being doubled in size as we speak. The campus has been transformed and is easily one of the nicest you will see anywhere.

All students should experience freshman year in Galloway, Belk, Graham or Hewlett. Galloway is preferred.

I lived in Belk my freshman year, and I too am jealous of the new dorms, BUT being across from Brooks Field was pretty cool. Heading to class and hearing the ping from practice everyday was a cool experience. I stayed in Galloway a lot; it's a crappy dorm but also the perfect way to experience college.

Galloway is going to be demolished. And I agree. My daughter is at UNCW and as a freshman she had to choose between the dorms you listed. She ended up in Hewlett. 04-cheers

Not unusual for new buildings for issues to be found. I'm sure they'll be resolved over time.

I experienced a couple co-eds in Galloway. Does that count?
