The vaccines for Measles, Mumps, and Rubella we all developed in the SIXTIES. We are talking over 50 years of history behind those vaccines. How long were those vaccines studies before they were approved? I know the Measles vaccine took 10 years. 1958-1968.

Another thread down the shitter.

The thread is literally about Covid, Covid testing and mandating Covid vaccines. I’d say it’s been pretty much on topic.

It’s a f#@$ing Memphis Tigers sports board. Take the conspiracy theories and the ensuing BS to another board. But that’s just my opinion…

I would be 100% in agreement if this was a hijacked thread but you know what you are walking into when you read the thread title. If it bothers you so much why even open the thread?

Yes. Switch to another thread if you don't like this one. It is literally in the title...

It’s funny you should ask that. They’ve been working on this rapid vaccine technology since 2002 when SARS-CoV-1 was discovered, and have been working on it for 18 years so they could be ready. SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) came, and the vaccine target was identified quickly due to the past research.

You’re right. We should let people die for decades like
with MMR.

It feels like there is a lot of room between the ridiculous extreme of "let people die for decades" and forcing people to take the vaccine and provide proof of the unapproved vaccine...

That is a faulty argument. Someone who never gets sick, never gets flu or other shots, and has a very strong immune system, isn't being unreasonable if they are worried about the side effects of a vaccine that hasn't gone through the same rigorous process all others do.

Nobody is arguing that nobody should get vaccinated.

I guess you don’t know what it means when you put quotes on “pandemic”.

COVID is not a hoax. It is a real cold virus that was created in a Chinese lab.

To consider it a pandemic when the death numbers have been greatly exaggerated in a number of ways is a stretch.

But keep arguing semantics. It’s all you’ve got.

If I remember correctly they were exaggerating the numbers before for the election...

Now they are exaggerating the numbers because of why?

No doubt the numbers are being under counted since the election.

So with Florida reporting record cases...They are under counting them.

Damn it is worse than we thought...Better put on you masks...

Cant have it both ways...

This.

You do you and get the vaccine if you want but leave the young/healthy and those with no underlining health issues alone who do not want a vaccine

(08-12-2021 09:57 PM)chrisd11 Wrote:  Stammers, the first part of your post is exactly why the CDC carefully worded “deaths involving COVID” and not deaths “from or because of” COVID. It’s an all inclusive catch all number.

It’s worded that way because of how Covid works. Like a lot of viruses it looks for weak access and impacts an essential life function. It doesn’t impact everyone in the same way but it does increase the chance of severe reactions and even death. Covid like a lot of virus’s mutates. It has done so several times. It’s how Delta came into being. A stronger, easier to transmit strain. There is a strain called Lambda that is dominate in South America working it’s way north.

Like the flu vaccine phizer and others are not cures. They are ways to improve resistance by building up specific antibodies. In some people it is successful in blocking transmission. In some you may still get infected but symptoms are greatly mitigated. But you still can be contagious. The person you inject if not vaccinated can still become very ill or worse.

Masks are not 100% effective. But they do provide significant protection as does safe distancing and sanitation.

Some of us were raised to believe that it is more important to act in ways that bring a greater good than potential personal inconvenience.
I made the choice to get vaccinated for my own protection, my families protection, my co-workers protection, the protection of my wife’s elderly and health challenged parents.
I don’t enjoy wearing a mask but ditto above.

Yesterday I took a Garabaldi’s pizza to a close friend and former hard core anti-vaxer. A Tiger OL alum by the way. What changed his mind? A very bad case of Covid, three weeks of suffering, needing oxygen treatments to breath. He lost 25 pounds and could barely walk when I saw him. 4 weeks ago he was a big, strong confident man. I have 10 stories similar to that with two ending in death.

Thank you for those who have chosen to do whatever it takes to keep others safe. Arnold Schwarzenegger today sent a message to Covid deniers and anti-maskers he called schmucks. Look it up it’s a pretty strong and obscene message to the anti crowd. I didn’t say it, he did.

I would one day like to get a definitive answer about how Covid became its deadly version rather than the note on the back of a Lysol can. But right now I’m more interested in how the world responds to a pandemic. And I’m not too proud to ask the Anti crowd to please help. I want normal again and my friends and family to be around when it’s over.

No, it’s the Delta variant primarily. Even those that are vaccinated are passing it around, although it’s significantly less likely to kill us. But the immigrants coming in haven’t helped.

Good lord man. Think for yourself.

That's priceless coming from you.

Real question is how many Tigers season ticket holders will boycott games because Silverfield wears a mask?

Florida, which always gets a majorly disproportionate amount of publicity is #24 in number of deaths per million right ahead of Tennessee at #23. New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts are the top 3, Mississippi is #4.

The border had 458,000 illegal immigrant crossings in 2020. So far in 2020 there have been 1,331,000, with over 1 million in the last 6 months, and 600,000 in the last 3 months. If current trends continue, there will be well over 2.5 million in 2021. 70% of illegal immigrants state that Florida is their ultimate destination.

Hundreds of thousands are being released into the general public without undergoing covid tests and without even being given a court date. Quite the unfortunate super spreaders for Texas and Florida.

Speaking of Texas, this 45 year old GOP official died of covid wednesday. He hated masks and mocked the virus and the vaccine in his last FB post Jul 30. Two days later he went into the hospital and died Aug 6. That's just sad and weird.

https://www.star-telegram.com/news/coron...76493.html

Judging from his pic, he was obese. Obesity – which is defined as having a body mass index (BMI) over 30 – increases the risk of dying of Covid-19 by nearly 50%, as well as increasing the risk of ending up in hospital by 113%.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/f...sity-study

I talked to this Oregon Nurse from Grant's Pass about a year ago who stopped in my store. She said every obese patient with covid died...no exceptions. It scared her so bad she quit eating and lost 100 lbs in three months.

That statement is completely absurd by her. Between 40% and 45% of the American population is obese... I am willing to bet just about everyone on this board knows someone that is obese, had COVID and did not die... I am disputing that in general COVID affects obese people more severely but not every obese person is dying.

Your anecdotal information has been way out of line with the data. Having said that, Josephine County's death rate is over 2,000 per million. Only 18 states have a higher rate.
