Hannah Nihill is returning to the Dragons
We haven't heard much from Drexel Athletics this summer, but the CAA sent out a press release with the 2021-22 CAA Schedule...

One little note that I wasn't aware of....
Quote:Four of last year’s major award winners return this season, including the 2020-21 CAA Player of the Year, Jasmine Dickey of Delaware. Additionally, last season’s Defensive Player of the Year, Hannah Nihill, returns to Drexel as a graduate student

Here is the entire press release with the CAA schedule.

RE: Hannah Nihill is returning to the Dragons
good timing because i was just looking this up over lunch. she was in a social media post on the team's page a few days ago and she's on the roster at drexeldragons.com.

women's basketball is in position to raise some hell this year. possibly the best guard play we've ever had especially if hendrixson hits threes. could even be some depth in the post if saatman and valentine progress. it's more likely they will than not in this program.

Our 2011-2012 Guard play was probably the best in school history. They are on the top of record lists.

i looked it up. we're talking about mershon and nacickaite? i see them coming up around 5th on some of the record lists. nihill and washington might not wind up with the career stats because we didn't turn the offense over to them until this year. everything went through greenberg...possibly to our detriment.

i don't ever recall us having a guard that can create her shot like washington. i think of marginean as more of a foreward and wasn't as much of an outside shooter.

Pearson Creighton MErson Nacickatie Schluth Fiona Flanagan and Taylor Wootton all 2012/ that is a stacked team

it was interesting going back to past years and remembering some of the names. we always churn out good players and they fit similar roles year after year.

we haven't seen a single great player though since marginean. being a sum of the parts always kept us in the mix...but never got us over the hump. washington took the caa tournament over like we haven't seen since marginean...and i'm not even sure she did that.

RE: Hannah Nihill is returning to the Dragons
how do you think the women's schedule will look this year? denise tended to load us up with a lot of good opponents. not many power house teams that were going to destroy us...but not a lot of doormats. we scheduled the better mid major teams and tended to play all the philly teams.

it often seemed like the non-conference was a throw away to get ready for later in the season. we spread the pt around probably to see what everybody could do. i still think there are a lot of players that haven't really separated themselves and almost seem interchangeable. that's good and bad.

hopefully we drum up support for this team one way or another. they deserve it. the program could be on the verge of taking another big step forward.

So not only will Hannah be heading back to the Dragons on the basketball court, she's decided to use her graduate year to add a sport to her resume. She is on Drexel's field hockey roster and will be a two sport athlete this year, which is a rarity at a school like Drexel. Normally, I would be sad about this and would want her to focus her efforts on basketball. But there seems to be nothing that this young lady can't do, and with her insane level of energy, I suspect that the field hockey play will not be a distraction to her success on the court.

RE: Hannah Nihill is returning to the Dragons
Great article, and it gets me thinking about how that extra year of eligibility could pay off for the Dragons. With the popularity of 5-year programs, you have to imagine that Hannah's not the only player who can easily take advantage of the extra year, just by virtue of still being on campus. She's just the highest profile. I'd be curious to see how the percentage of eligible players returning to play for Drexel compares to other schools at our level that don't have popular 5-year programs.

Field hockey lost in the opener 1-0, Hannah took 4 shots (3 on target) which lef the team. The team only had 4 shots on goal for the game. So an excellent start for Hannah

Wow, I didn't think that she'd actually play. I just thought she'd just be considered a walk on with limited to no playing time.
