Already have you scheduled, but honestly, Id be happy to be back in a conference with the Pirates. Should become a fun rivalry in football once we finally get that first win monkey off our back. Last two games were pretty competitive with great crowds. And we can always use two more wins in basketball.

Nobody mentioned this but if you add Nebraska and BYU in to the Big 12 that’s twelve schools so you’d want to rename it back to the “Big 8”.

Or better yet, Athletic Conference of America (ACÁ)

Agreed. If you going to include Myrtle Beach as urban than you need to also include Lafayette which has a bigger metro area.

Huntington has roughly 90k more TV homes in our market compared to Myrtle Beach. We are the 74th largest market and we actually control this market.

That leaves a school like UTSA screwed. How would we ever get into a conference if every G5 conference followed that path? Because of Texas and Texas A&M, and starting so late in the game (school established 1969 and football in 2011), we’ll NEVER carry our market. I just don’t think it’s as black & white as you make it out to be. It’s real easy for a Marshall fan to sit around and wanna make these rules when you already have a long, rich history and following in your little market.

A large market like yours you really only need to get 5-10% involved. You don't currently win more often than not and are therefore not growing your market share and developing fans. The excitement of being new has worn off and it's put up or shut up time. Being in a conference or playing ball at this level is not a right. I'm not making up rules here. It's just common sense based on what has occurred in this conference since the last shake up.

Let me ask you this: If you had the benefit of hindsight and you were there in 2012 to vote in UTSA to CUSA, would you have done it? You now know that TV isn't going to pay for an uncarried market. You now know that UTSA had been mediocre to bad 10 years later in both primary sports. Would you want to carry a team like UTSA for 8 years knowing what you know now? There are about 5-6 schools in CUSA that fit that bill. And they were all brought on for their metro areas, that they don't carry even a modest percentage of and haven't brought much to the table.

But you want us to care whether or not you got in a conference and feel bad for you? The knowledgeable people feel this is your year. I hope they're right. This ain't the Democratic party. It sucks watching CUSA cut checks to teams that have contributed nothing to the pot. Not one dollar. 2011 was a decade ago. How long is that going to be an excuse for you?

RE: ESPN talks about CUSA in their article about the future of the Big 12
I actually like UTSA and think they can gain a good percentage of their market IF they start winning.

The problem isn’t any individual new start up program. The problem is that we brought in multiple start ups at the same time. It takes some time to lay the ground work for a football program. The good news is that these new programs are no longer infants, they are now toddlers and hopefully start making some noise.

Fair post, but you talk about how we have been mediocre to bad so far in our first 8 years in the conference, and ask me whether we should've been given our opportunity in hindsight?

Our football program is 40-56 so far in our first 8 years in C-USA. Marshall was 40-57 in your first 8 years in C-USA. I know the conference has changed since then, but it is what it is.

And speaking of being "mediocre to bad", correct if I'm wrong, but Marshall had TWO winning seasons in your first 20 years of D1-A Football, including 16 consecutive losing seasons. People talk about UTEP being in a funk? lol Your record in your first 20 years of D1-A football was 52-146 (.263). UTSA is 48-60 (.444) right now after 9 years of FBS football. Is our record something to be proud of? No, but we're getting better, and it certainly isn't remotely close to your ineptitude early on.

Btw, do you feel Marshall should have been given the opportunity to join the Southern Conference in 1977 when you guys were 18-55 (.247) as an Independent prior? Oh and the reason you became an Independent in the first place is because your school was EXPELLED from the MAC in 1969 (the year UTSA opened its doors) due to NCAA violations.

So again, it's very convenient for you to sit there and question whether UTSA or anyone else should've been given our opportunity when you clearly got that opportunity without earning it long before you started making a name for yourselves.

Not making excuses. Just stating facts.

Snort. UAB would like a word. Auburn and Alabama, plus we are under the University of Alabama Board of Trustees, who did a pretty good job of smothering our program in the crib for most of it's existence.
