ULM could be the saving grace of the Southland and save that conference after its own defections. It would be the best scenario for the Sun Belt and the Southland.

I can't speak for all Marshall fans, but yeah, that's a no.
I would be in favor of a "best of the rest" type conference, but a move to the Sun Belt would be bad. Football is good, but what about the other sports? The basketball is bad, and at Marshall, Men's soccer is a thing, and would Marshall soccer still have a place in CUSA?

If you think men’s soccer will play a role in realignment or if it does for your school I can tell you where Marshall will be.

Basketball has averaged pretty similar RPI over the last 6 seasons. Around 16th. CUSA has a better top, but without Marshall and UAB that drops CUSA to a position that likely isn't above the SBC.
Soccer would be rcativated in the SBC. Marshall, UAB, CCU, GS, GSU plus the ball is rolling at App to restart the program too after the very successful inaugural season of Boone's NPSL squad full of old App players. And if WVU does get involved with the ACC or AAC their soccer would go there. UK probably goes wherever they can.
However, UAB, USM and Marshall isn't leaving CUSA for the time being anyway. No SBC/CUSA teams will move until they figure out what happens in the AAC.

This is the truth. As much as Sun Belt and CUSA fans talk about realignment, nothing will happen until schools are taken from the conferences and even then, nothing may happen. UTEP and another Texas school could be taken and CUSA would be fine, nothing would happen to the Sun Belt and we'd continue on.

In all seriousness, I think this true. The only proviso I would add to that is if everything collapses allowing wholesale new conferences viable. I could then see a ‘best of’ new conf with at least USM, UAB Marshall from cusa and App, UL, Ark St from the SBC joining forces with others.

UAB is in the best position to move to the AAC should they be raided by the B12. What would be ideal would the eastern based teams in CUSA and SB form a league and the same goes for the western based teams. Better rivalries, less travel, etc. Jmo

This will not happen. ESPN literally just gave the SBC a new deal through 2031. That conference isn’t going anywhere. [/b]

True but again a total reshuffle is looking to happen and happen pretty soon. When that happens ESPN will be just as happy to make an even better deal with a ‘best of’ conf.

Anything is possible, unlikely yes. There are a few schools I really like in CUSA but if the AAC is decimated and has 3-4 schools taken and they take 3-4 of CUSA and we aren't one of them then its not enough to stay in another version of CUSA. At that point the SoCon almost looks better (Yes this is sarcasm for some of you who don't get it).

This thread- LOL! It is clearly the "off"-season for college sports message boards. Anything goes, it doesn't have to make any reasonable sense.

UAB and probably Rice are the hands down favorites to move to the AAC from CUSA. Who knows after that? ESPN can do anything they want.
“Hey SunBelt, can we shred this contract so we can add three teams to make the conference stronger and make more dough?”

Yup. Nothing will be done until the aac shakes out, and certainly not without the blessing of the mouse.

I don’t think it’s so far-fetched that ESPN put a bug in someone’s ear about maximizing conference potential. I could see the belt being proactive and reaching out to certain teams.

It would probably take disbanding the conference and the starting over again without those teams. Which in some ways is how CUSA was built the first time from the Metro.

ESPN is who is driving this reshuffle. They knew about TX/OK from the very beginning. They would not have renegotiated and extended the SBC contract unless they already knew the outcome of all of this. Remember when they refused to enter into negotiations with the Big12 last year?
I do not buy that a lot these schools in the Big12 were blindsided by this move. They are just posturing, and it would not surprise me if the whole P4 thing was already worked out prior to this news breaking. Here is my guess if what is going to happen.
TX/OK- To the SEC
WVU/OK State- To the ACC
Kansas/Iowa State to the Big10
TTU/TCU/Baylor/Kansas State- PAC 12
The AAC adds no one.
CUSA adds no one.
The SBC only tries to poach and add teams if ESPN has told them too. The mouse literally controls pretty much everything.

RE: USM Marshall UAB
Marshall has had almost all their games picked up by the CUSA media partners over the past few seasons. If ESPN gets tired of that media property not being in their portfolio that is when we'll see some moves. Whether it's AAC or SBC if Marshall looks appealing to ESPN they'll move.
Edit: I've never understood why y'all don't start a poll in the realignment board about who is the flagship and let outsiders tell you who they feel is. I think you would be surprised.
