RE: ESPN and Sun Belt announce expansion of media deal
Anybody wanna talk about conference realignment?

03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

Does this bring us closer to the top of the G5?

Yosef provided this breakdown earlier in another thread:

https://csnbbs.com/thread-922773.html

Quote:Post: #16RE: 2021 Football TV Schedule

Just looking through the other G5's announced TV dates. This is what I have:

AAC Schedule:
ABC: 3 (including Champ game)
ESPN: 8
ESPN2: 4
ESPNU: 5
ABC/ESPN/ESPN2: 3
ESPN2/U: 2

Navy's games:
CBS Sports: 4
CBS: 2

MWC Schedule:
23 Games on Fox/FS1/FS2 (Champ game on Fox)
29 Games on CBS Sports
3 Games on CBS

MAC Schedule (might be more convoluted than CUSA's as daddy ESPN looks to be selling off inventory)
CBS Sports: 3
ESPNU: 1
ESPN2/U: 7
ESPN2/U/CBSSports: 9
ESPNU/ESPN+ 2
ESPNU/CBSSports: 2

UCONN Games:
CBSSports: 6 (All their home games will be on CBS Sports Network)

I suspect it does not since it wasn't mentioned at all in the release...

We probably won't hear about the money details for a while. Unless it leaks by a schools athletic dept it'll take some work to get that info.

We still don't know the exacts of the yearly payout.

Awesome…so the Cajuns, Red Wolves, Mountaineers and Bech Hens will have less Saturday games than we already do now. Perfect!

Especially considering college football is about to get blown to smithereens with P5 realignment. But please give each member an additional $250k per season to offset the loss of Saturday games.

Extending the agreement and number of games. This all makes sense now if we expand.

Good information regarding how bringing in a team from a state you already have doesn't do anything for dollars but bringing in a team from a new state does. Hmmmm….

*Edit*- this could very well only apply to P5 conferences. I need to go back and listen again.

The SBC could just invite USM, UAB, Marshall and Liberty. Vote out ULM and add LaTurd. Be done with any semblance of CUSA and pretty much kill off all the former SBC members who jumped ship.

I'd bet it does. The exact terms of how much we get from the last deal still hasn't leaked. Why sign an extension without some revenue to show for it?

In this Scenario according to what Skipper said, adding La Tech and UAB would do nothing for the SBC tv contract dollar and cents wise. However, adding Marshall and Southern Miss would. 2 new states.

Very true, but performance over markets. Especially with the 12 team playoff. That’s going to happen, Sankey and ESPN forced that through knowing they were going to sabotage the Big12. So the Top 6 conferences get an auto bid for their champion.

A league with the strongest teams will get that 5th or 6th spot. Right now the AAC has a pretty good advantage over the MWC and SBC. Followed by CUSA and MAC.

The SBC could surpass the American if the American has defections of 3 of their top programs and the SBC takes the 4 best programs from CUSA. But it doesn’t work the other way because CUSA’s bottom is putrid.

All of that "new state" stuff is old thinking. The Big 12 isn't looking at Cincinnati because they're trying to get that sweet Ohio TV market.

Bingo

I tend to agree with you all. I was just basing off of what he said regarding new distribution fees from new state. This stuff is all wayyy over my head.

RE: ESPN and Sun Belt announce expansion of media deal
Question for USM fans lurking. I’ve often heard UAB and USM are a pair. UAB would vote with USM and vice versa. If other leagues like AAC are out of the picture for both teams, do you think USM would leave UAB in CUSA to pursue a Sun Belt invite? Or would they rather stick it out in CUSA? Or try and be a package deal?

There is no way the SBC is going to take a faithful member like ULM and vote them out for LA Tech. That is how bad blood begins and fractures conferences. I'm willing to bet that Marshall and Southern Miss are the two favorites. UAB is a long shot. Liberty is too controversial. I doubt JMU would get the call due to arrogance displayed in the past. So. Miss and Marshall bring fans and culture similar to most Sun Belt schools. Perfect fits. We might not be the most compact conference in G5 still but will have a strong culture together and that will help us hold up over time hopefully.

I also think we take a serious look at UTA, and UALR this go around. Add football or head to the ASun

I don't think they should add football if it's going to stretch their athletic departments too thin and they end up putting teams out that only win 2-3 games each season. Rather if they stay the pressure on them to make their b-ball teams top notch should be how the conference pushes them.

Awfully convenient of this getting done right before the SEC expansion.

Helps ensure Sunbelt stability in case of any potential dominoes
