RE: New Realignment Thread
Yes pretty crazy to have a commissioner with only two teams. However, you could have a lesbian or a transvestite to have a diverse commissioner. :)
The Pac-12 Board of Directors announced on Friday that the conference and commissioner George Kliavkoff have mutually agreed to part ways. According to the release, Kliavkoff will officially end his run as commissioner on Feb. 29, 2024....

As their television deal falls further financially behind the Power Two, seven ACC schools — FSU, Clemson, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Virginia and Virginia Tech — met independently last year to explore a potential exit strategy from the ACC’s grant-of-rights. Leading the expedition were Florida State and Clemson, the two most disgruntled and, perhaps, valuable programs seeking a new conference. FSU took an initial step in its exit strategy in December, making a legal filing...

Attorneys for Clemson have spent the last several months gearing up for legal action of their own.

Would be a good year to run deep/semi-deep in the womens' NCAA and surprise people (including ourselves) with an impressive record in football.

Clemson Comments on Civil Suit Against ACC

Quote:Following is the statement released by Clemson:

“Today, Clemson University filed a lawsuit in Pickens County, South Carolina, against the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). In this litigation, Clemson seeks confirmation of the plain language found in the Grant of Rights agreements and the related media agreements between the ACC and ESPN – that these agreements, when read together, plainly state that Clemson controls its media rights for games played if it is no longer a member of the ACC. Clemson also seeks a ruling regarding the unenforceability of the severe penalty the ACC is seeking to impose upon exiting members and confirmation that it does not owe a fiduciary duty to the conference as alleged by the ACC.

“The ACC’s position regarding the Grant of Rights, the exit penalty, and obligations owed by members to the conference, as detailed in its public statements and other court filings, leaves Clemson with no choice but to move forward with this lawsuit.

“Clemson has not given notice that it is exiting the ACC and remains a member of the conference.”

I've said many times before that all things being equal, Rice would fit in nicely with the ACC leftovers, along with a few of our present AAC conference-mates.

Agree. Personally, I think both Noles and Tigers are a bit over their skis in perception of national appeal in a saturated SE US market.. Maybe additive for $.25 but they think they are worth a $1. Ultimately market will determine that. But in meantime them bolting would be a big positive for Rice. Ray Charles can see where this is all going w Big 10 and SEC in tier one, ACC/Big XII in tier 2 and then everyone else.

I would support giving Tommy a raise for taking a 'SMU deal' with going x years for a y discount to other member schools in a package deal w/ Tulane to trade Fla panhandle and So. Carolina market for H-Town and New Orleans. There is a market for a Magnolia League and this would be a big step in leftover ACC plus the strong privates from other big market Southern/Texas area for people that still believe that someone can be a smart student and a great athlete..

We wouldn’t be a tough sell. Football and basketball better get it going. Rice fits the profile of the schools that would be left behind, and then there’s the market…

Maybe the Rice Pres will help get Georgia Tech’s support for a post-ACC invite?

All of those schools will want Rice. They're like us. Boston College, Wake Forest, Stanford, Cal, Duke, Georgia Tech, SMU, Rice, Tulane, Army, Navy, Memphis, Louisville, Pitt, South Florida and Temple will probably comprise the ACC.

“Like” has little to do with things or at least is further down the list of what’s important. Number 1 is what monies can a school deliver. TV market is about all Rice offers right now with the current state of the teams. #2 for ACC 2.0 would likely be access to Houston area recruiting market.

I think it’s likely that they’d want a like-minded institution that’s located in Houston. The market pays our way. Competitive football and basketball only helps.

That could be true. Being invited would be an incredible break. Aligning with like-minded schools in the East and two military academies would definitely help our programs. It improves our profile. A lot of people in Houston would come out to see those teams play. Students may be more excited to watch us play other nerdy schools instead of Charlotte and FAU. I would hope so anyway.

Using your above list, and dividing into divisions (I know divisions aren't really a thing anymore, but it does help see the potential rivalries/location proximities a bit better--I had to put someone who is "East" in "west' due to unbalanced divisions and chose Army as they seem to want games in Texas and out West for recruiting/alumni purposes, and I didn't think GA Tech would want to be in the West group as much as Army would, but feel free to switch). Much better than where we are, and more like-minded schools, but I think a few schools in AAC might be called before us?

New new ACC EAST
Boston College
Duke
Georgia Tech
Louisville
Navy
Pitt
Temple
Wake Forest

New new ACC WEST
Army
Cal
Memphis
Rice
SMU
South Florida
Stanford
