But probably really smart. JSU may be presenting college football with the next great idea to get students to continue coming to games.

Wouldn’t it have the opposite effect? Why go into the stadium to stand in the sun sober when you or a buddy has a private air conditioned skybox that you can easily sneak beer into?

plus it locks in the seating capacity on those two sides..hard to expand.

My first thought as well

Central Arkansas built luxury boxes on top of a dorm bordering their stadium. They aren’t as boxed in as that will be but they don’t have any easy path to an expansion to 20,00+ except for corners and end zones.

Anything else would be very expensive

Well, overall I think this set-up is interesting. The more I see it the more I like.

Actually, at least in Louisiana combining dorm space in stadiums has been done at least twice in the past, in both of the major universities…UL and lsu. But these were built under the stands. I had friends that lived in tiger stadium in the early 80’s and it was a hot mess (literally) but quite the party atmosphere. At UL Cajun Field replaced McNaspy stadium in 1971, so before my time but it also contained dorm space. McNaspy was on campus and holds a ton of good memories in Cajun Nation.

If you know what the campus looks like today you will be amazed with how it looked in the 1940’s.

Even if JSU goes FBS, not sure there will ever be a need to expand past 30k. And if there is a need, it also can be figured out. Those pics are only artist renderings, doesn’t mean that is exactly how it will look.

If their plan is to go FBS then I wonder which conference they think they are going to join. There are already two Alabama schools in the Sun Belt. Ya think they are planning to go to whats left of the CUSA after the Big 12 collapse and next round of realignment?

The WAC has already stated that is their destination, also, JSU is aligning themselves in a new football conference, their final step may be FBS as well. But if all the expansion BS happens, like it look likes it is, then they will be on so,Rome’s list. They have the facilities, they have he fan support, they even have UAb as a home game this season, even though it is in Montgomery.

More I read, Im not sure there will be a FBS and FCS. Looks like there will be UAT, Ohio St and TXAM of the world in one group then everyone else is about to be something else. The JSUs of the world will most likely not be playing with those guys on any basis in football. 60-70 teams will be by themselves and the rest of us will be on our own.

get the feeling JSU wanted to kill two birds with one stone. finite budget + needed a new dorm + football stadium due for upgrade = mutant hybrid

on a serious note, i think it is a perfectly practical solution. only downside is that no room for FBS growth (perhaps JSU is not even interested in moving up, so could be a non-issue to be perfectly fair) and it looks odd cosmetically. resembles more of like a dorm with added football field for an amenity, not the other way around.

Not sure if we are building even hoping for FBS. Sure if offer we would move but dont know where we would fit. Alabama has the big two and the other three FBS schools. The other three have remained about he same since forever. JSU attendance is about the same as those three except when a bigger name school arrives or they play each other. The media coverage in Alabama isnt much different than our old DII days and I would say the same for Troy State and UAB, South has never gotten much coverage in North Alabama (sure the JSU gets the same in the South). If the state of Alabama doesnt grow just cant see a huge desire for JSU in a league or any big change for any Alabama school. Of course the big two are in The BIG League so no need for a change.

If I had the option for a room like this during my undergrad, there's no way I'm not doing some clandestine (but reversible) renovations to turn my room into a premium-priced Airbnb for game weekends.
