Western picked up Navy's RB Jamale Carothers (hometown player) who ran for 734 yards and a 6.6 average as a So.

This will be a totally different Western offense that takes the field...if they click I expect to compete for a CUSA title. If they dont 3rd place in the east. At best

WKU has LOADED UP on the good, skill players this transfer season. I mean, you guys have it all on offense.

How's WKU's OL and defense look this season?

How's WKU's OL and defense look this season?

I believe only two returning starters on the OL with another coming back from injury. Two TE's one on Macky watch list. Western also loaded up on the offensive line with two MAC starters and a highly rated OL man from Neb. Also the highest rated (overall) Fr Western signed out of high school. He's a TE

Defense also high the portal hard but Western had more returning on that side of the ball. Only 2 returning players in the defensive backfield but both all conference. Western loaded up on highly rated (88, 89, type and a 4 star) portal players from P5 to fill those spots.

Up front should be very strong with preseason defensive POY in Malone and a big body in the middle. Three starters return on the DL.

New DC (promoted from with in) and when you add in so many transfers you just never know what will happen. While they were rated high...they transferred for a reason.

If anyone from Western said they knew what this year would look like...guess and a guess from paper because no one knows. If it clicks...I think a very special year could happen. If it doesnt its going to be disappointing.

Talent is there on both sides plus a all conference kicker and good punter. I'm about as happy as a kid in a candy store heading into the season. But know that could change because while Zappe is a proven...he hasnt did it for a whole season in FBS. Everything is just a guess but very few years its anything but that.

Good update. Thanks. As I suspected, WKU is LOADED with much more talent in 2021 than the rest of CUSA realizes. And it's going to be FUN to watch, with Bailey Zappe at the helm.

WKU is my early pick to finish atop the CUSA East in 2021.

Western just picked up a two time FCS All American WR he's small but very quick and fast and catches everything close to him. Talk about disappointing...I'm setting myself up just for that. If this offense doesnt click.

RE: Transfer QBs will have significant impact on C-USA race
Looking at the current WKU roster there are 23 players listed as either WR or TE. That gives Zappe a bunch of targets and that doesn't even count running backs.
Some of the guys are proven receivers too, not just a bunch of potential. Like Guns says the potential in Bowling Green is at a high level, now don't want to get too amped but this team is way ahead of last year's at this point. We'll have to see how things play out but the excitement is building. 01-ncaabbs

I am pumped to see what our offense can do. The last 3 seasons has been rough going from high flying brohm years to not sure our QB could complete a pass 3 yards. Not seeing much buzz around WKU football on the internet, I guess we are still a hoops school.

First and only game is 1st one vs. UT Martin. We do tend to struggle vs. IAA and then following week we will beat someone good.

Struggle or lose to a FCS then beat the dog crap out of a SEC school. I hope the losing is behind this coach and that includes to my very good friend WT. Love to see FAU go 11-1 (as long as (WT is coach) with that one loss to Western

Pretty arrogant and clownish for this coach to make fun other programs for recruiting high school players. Can't think that the WKU portal approach is good for building stability.

Then you are not thinking outside the box with the new transfer rules. How many years do you think a team will get out of a kid that enters as a freshman? That kid can transfer at any time and play the next season at a different school.

Or you can pick up a redshirt freshman out of the portal and now he has to sitout a year if they transfer. Not only will they have to sit a year out but also fighting for a spot on a team with kids that DONT have to sit out.

So if a coach is choosing between two players and one now must sit out a year or one can play that season...which one will the coach choose? He's not going to let a scholarship be used for a player that has to sit. Not unless that player is special.

Those schools that basically have two whole freshmen classes....

going to lose 60 to 75% of them in the next two years. Easier to build from the portal and get a player with 2 to 4 years still to play and already used up their 'free transfer'. Thats what the smart coaches will do

Coaching IS at fault for losing to FCS, there is no doubt about that.

Similar to taking too many JC guys, if you lose more than 25 players a year for a few years in a row (graduation, transfer, done with the game, injuries) you will quickly fall below 85 scholarships.

McCaffrey is a running QB with a noodle arm. He should do a reverse Tannehill and play WR. He looked truly awful at Nebraska.

Should be a good choice on third and four, then.

Seriously, I will be happy with either McCaffrey or the guy that beats him out.
