If they lose three (Houston, Memphis, and Cincy), they could be looking at Rice, UAB, and Charlotte

I think they will take whoever ESPN tells them to take. ESPN sees this all as a golden opportunity to gain a near monopoly on the media rights to college athletics, and do so for less than they have been paying. The Big XII will add some AAC teams and get a much lower per team payout due to Texas and OU leaving. AAC will add some C-USA/SBC teams and get a much lower payout than what they have been getting. SBC absorbs the remainder of C-USA and gets paid next to nothing for their rights. End result is a wealth of content for ESPN+ and midweek football time slots being filled for millions of dollars less than what it was costing them before.
Even if all that were true, (and I'm not arguing it's not) it'd still be an improvement for any CUSA team(s) that ended up in the AAC.

Agreed. The end result is probably better for pretty much everyone outside of a select few who will feel jilted if they don't get a call.
