Devils found 3 goals all of a sudden in the third period and are holding on against the STars. C'mon Devils, give us a little help.

Wash and Pitt in ABC game of week (i.e.free TV, folks) knotted in a good one start of 2nd Per 3-3.

lookin' like we got a better chance to catch the Kings for 3rd 'cause the Stars are bookin' it right now and they have two games in hand yet with a homer schedule down the stretch.

Caps get a monster win at Colorado(1st east team to win there in regulation all year long) and now are 1 point back of Pittsburgh with a game at hand. Real shot here to move into 3rd and avoid Florida in the 1st round of the playoffs.

gee whiz he was relatively young. What happened?

NY Islanders legend Mike Bossy dead at only 65

Quote:...terminal lung cancer. Bossy’s diagnosis became public last October, when he stepped away from his job as an NHL analyst for the French language network TVA Sports to deal with his health.

He finished his career with 573 goals, scoring over 50 in nine straight seasons, an all-time record. Famously, he scored 50 goals in 50 games during the 1980-81 season, matching Maurice “Rocket” Richard’s record.

Of his scoring, former teammate Chico Resch told Sports Illustrated in 1981 that Bossy “scores goals as naturally as you and I wake up in the morning and brush our teeth.”

He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991, with a list of accolades that includes eight All-Star appearances, three Lady Byng trophies, the 1981-82 Conn Smythe Trophy and the 1977-78 Calder Trophy.

Speaking on Friday following Bossy’s death, Resch said there were two players on the dynastic Islanders teams of the early 1980s that would have been irreplaceable: Bossy and defenseman Denis Potvin.

“Because those guys were the elite. They were the game-changers,” Resch said. “And we knew it. When I could see Boss sitting across the room and that look on his face, if he hadn’t scored, I just thought, ‘Oh boy, look out.’ ”

Bossy is the third Dynasty-era Islander to die this year. Fellow Hall of Famer Clark Gillies died at 67 in January, while former Islanders defenseman and radio broadcaster Jean Potvin died at 72 last month.

Wow. Sad to hear. Vaya Con Dios, Boss.

Makin' it darn-near impossible now. Only a few games left and we let a "golden" opportunity (see what I did there?) go by last night at home against the Devils. Well...it IS sin city, but still...Kings catch a huge break.

Well, now it looks like we might be able to catch Dallas for that last WC spot, if we end up beating them in a few days, as long as things stay close.

Vegas made a huge mistake trying to pull a Tampa and resting top players on IL in mid-season. They just lost too many games they should have won with a proper roster. Vegas is one of the top teams, but they won;t go to the playoffs due to piss-poor roster management. Not the coach's fault and not the players' fault; they are a great team and their management needs to learn from these totally avoidable blunders and not make these mistakes in the future. Martinez's freak face-cut injury early on that kept him out most of season was only legit injury that really hurt.

GN's played a helluva game last night and beat the Caps in OT despite Ovechkin tying Gretzky And recently deceased Mike Bossy at nine seasons of 50 goals each, which is impressive. I think Logan Thompson (who was put in during 2nd per) is the 160th goalie O has scored against.

Thanks to the almost-traded-but-no-not-really-just-kidding Dadonov for scoring a gutsy goal in the early 3rd to tie it up, and LT played well to keep it close and give the Knights a chance. All-everything Shea Theodore with the backhanded goal in OT to seal the win for the good guys. Thanks to Caps for giving us Chandler Stephenson.

Vegas basically has to win out, but with only four games left, they're still a long-shot to make the playoffs, and their first-round matches won't be easy even if they do. Still, it's Vegas, so they're the kings of long shots. Would be sad to see them miss out with such a good team this year, but that's the way the puck drops, sometimes.

Vegas has a shot- 1 of the games left is with Dallas. And think they have the tiebreaker with them.

well, we're getting some help:

Calgary 4 Dallass 2 Final
Hurricanes 4 Jets 2 Final (Jets eliminated)
Minnesota 6 Vancooogver 3 Final
but...
LAKings 4 Chicagoless 1 Final

Still...it won't matter if we can't beat San Jose on Sunday night and Dallass at their place next Tuesday.

Reminds me of a few years ago where MLB lost so many absolute greats in such a short time. Hope it's just these 2.

Vegas Golden Knights goalie Robin Lehner to undergo season-ending surgery

Quote:Vegas Golden Knights goalie Robin Lehner is undergoing season-ending surgery for a lower-body injury, according to sources it was learned on Friday.

Lehner suffered the injury in a March 8th loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. He left the team's road trip to receive more testing after the initial injury and missed Vegas' next several games.

Lehner returned on April 3rd and posted a 2-2-1 record with a 3.21 goals-against average and .889 save percentage.

Mixed feelings about this. Clearly something wasn't fully right with Lehner when he came back, and this confirms it's not all his fault. Logan Thompson has done yeoman's work, and now will be asked to put on his big-boy shorts and step way up. Goaltending has been the GN's Achilles heel this season, along with roster mismanagement. Trading Fleury for nothing last off-season looking like the wrong move, as he's in like flynn with the Wild, and going strong. That's the way the puck bounces.
