The Athletic's Group of 5 fan survey 2021
Below is a survey link that The Athletic is doing for G5.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQ...g/viewform

I voted for 12 teams but in the "Please leave any additional comments on any of these topics" section I wrote in that all FBS conference champions should have a spot and then two at-large teams.

I also voted for ball state to win NY6 spot and that one time transfer rule and NIL will hurt G5s. In the MAC fans only section I gave our TV situation a 1. I'd rather we go back to all Saturday games even if it means we only get espn3/espn+ coverage (which many of our games are regulated to anyway).

Be interesting to see the results. Thought Toledo could win the MAC, and think Liberty is/has become a top G5 team.

They're not?

EDIT: I get they aren't in one of the five conferences, but semantics aside, the indies such as them, UMass, and UConn are considered as such.

They're the best University in the 6,000-year history of planet Earth.

They're not because they aren't part of the G5 revenue sharing deal with the CFP.

BYU and UConn would be offended to be considered as such.

Though it's more than mere semantics ... the Group of Five won the access bowl spot in the first round of CFP negotiations, and didn't carve out any role in the Access Bowl race for "independents many consider to be at the same level". Liberty could be the highest ranked non-Football Autonomy FBS school in some year, but until and unless the CFP structure is reformed, it's going to be a Go5 champion taking the Access Bowl spot.

RE: The Athletic's Group of 5 fan survey 2021
I voted 8 teams.
Cincinnati is the best G5 job.
A G5 will win the championship someday
I don't know enough about how all the usual top G5 teams are doing so I just voted Toledo will win the Access Bowl (AAC & MW beat up on each other)
Name/Likeness helps G5
Transfer Rule hurts G5
P5 will not add a G5 team soon (Boise would've been invited a long time ago, state of Florida & Texas are locked up, Ohio St blocks Cinci. Not sure other good options)
Keep G5 name
Happiness of MAC member schools - I gave a 4. Too many Ohio teams
Commissioner I give a 3 - I don't think he fights for the MAC like some of the other G5 conferences
TV situation I gave a 4 - I have some nitpicks about the Midweek games, but think if they could be ironed out, I'd really like it. (less of them, none on ESPN+ or ESPNNEWS, less Tuesday, more Thursday & Friday)
I think we could be as high as 3 in G5. I think we're at least even w/ the SunBelt
I have no idea who will win the MAC this year. Last year's COVID situation threw a wrench in everything. The West Division itself could be any of the teams. I'll say Miami

RE: The Athletic's Group of 5 fan survey 2021
Here are the MAC specific results from the survey.

https://theathletic.com/2709551/2021/07/...y-results/

Quote:Mid-American Conference

On a scale of 1-5, how happy are you with the MAC’s membership schools?

1. 6.7 percent (Not happy)
2. 5.9 percent
3. 27.7 percent
4. 37.9 percent
5. 21.7 percent (Very happy)

How would you rate commissioner Jon Steinbrecher’s job performance?

1. 9.2 percent (Poor job)
2. 11.2 percent
3. 34.3 percent
4. 34.3 percent
5. 11.2 percent (Great job)

How happy are you with the league’s TV situation?

1. 18.4 percent (Not happy)
2. 22 percent
3. 27.2 percent
4. 20.8 percent
5. 11.6 percent (Very happy)

Where would you rank the MAC among the G5 leagues?

1. 11.2 percent (Worst league)
2. 32.2 percent
3. 36 percent
4. 16.3 percent
5. 4.3 percent (Best league)

Who will win the MAC this year?

Ball State: 26.7 percent
Buffalo: 17.9 percent
Ohio: 14.5 percent
Western Michigan: 9.5 percent
Miami (Ohio): 8.8 percent
Central Michigan: 8.4 percent
Toledo: 6.5 percent
Kent State: 3.1 percent
Northern Illinois: 3 percent

MAC fans appear to understand and accept where they are and why. They’re generally happy with the league’s membership schools and Steinbrecher, but they also understand the conference is in the middle or the bottom half of the G5 and finances play a role in that. Feelings on the TV situation are mixed. Some people love the midweek MACtion games in the second half of the season, and some hate it, as reader comments illustrated.

“MAC Tuesday nights are a killer for the fans and the game environment. Love that they are on TV, but crazy to watch games with such small attendance. There are so many cable stations, they should be able to find better placement and have more weekend games.”

“MACtion forever.”

PUH-leeze! You don't go 11-45 in the AAC, outscored by an average score of 35-19, and suddenly feel superior to the schools that pounded you all those years just because you go Indy in football.
