The UMASS Lowell game was cancelled last year. Did they owe us a game?

Maybe one of last season's games were H&H....like ODU. Probably no chance WVU, Cuse or Georgia were H&H.

Maybe we should hire a private eye.

So Lowell was the only one last year that was slated to be a "new game." They are probably a logical candidate to do a home and home with since it can be squeezed in anywhere due to proximity.

The ODU game was a return as they played (and won) at Matthews the year before.

And we always manage to find a few heavyweights to play so will be interesting to see how the schedule evolves. Maybe BC will play us now that Grant is there...just kidding, of course they won't

I wonder what the over/under is for Grant at BC?

The better we look preseason the harder Coen tests them early.

I love the idea of playing top A 10 teams. And I like anytime we get a home and home with a top team.

NU also has a home and home with Vermont.

Colgate and NU will play an in-season home-and-home, beginning November 9th at Colgate and wrapping up December 3rd at Matthews.

Colgate is the favorite in the Patriot League and Lunardi has them as a 13 seed in his recent Bracketology.

Interesting that we are doing a home and home in season. At least it is a good opponent. At first, I didn't like it but I gave it more thought. It actually gives a chance in the non-conference to mirror what goes on in conference. You play a team and then 4 weeks later, you see them again and adjust/react to film/etc. It's also a bus trip so low on the cost

I was puzzled when I saw BU had scheduled URI on Nov 9. I always thought both coaches valued that as the opener. Like you said, maybe the game will happen at different timing as well. Some in-state rivalries take place near Christmas so I guess that's a possibility (Louisville-UK comes to mind)

You did some good detective work to get that. Yes, a little bit of a disappointing schedule. In the last few normal years, we only had 12 non conference games (1 less than allowed). Not sure why that is but there may not be one more to be added.

Like an awful piece of art work my wife once bought, the longer I look at this schedule, the more I like it. I think we have a bunch of competitive games and no blowouts either way....at least on paper.

We will get 3 good games at the Jam. Colgate, Harvard, UVM, and Georgia State are all very comparable teams picked at or near the top of their leagues. St Bonnie is a Top 25 team. That leaves us BU and UMass, who are always competitive with us, in addition to the return game Detroit (who went 10-6 last year in the Horizon) contractually owed us.

Even though last year we played Syracuse, Georgia, WV and UNC (which was a lot), I would still like to have two of those games this year on the schedule.

I get that this current schedule is laced with solid mid-major programs, but I always like to have a few Power 5's every year.

I have mixed emotions on this question. I think that playing top teams on the road is a valuable lesson. Once you've gone up against OSU, Stanford, Virginia Tech, etc visiting Hofstra is a piece of cake. I also think that Coen has gone overboard in most recent years...in teaching that lesson two or three times in each preseason. I know the money must be fun but what's not fun is starting the conference slate every year with five or six losses under our belt. Besides, we have an experienced team this year. Most of our guys have already played a bunch of those twenty point road blowouts to top teams.

The CAA conference schedule dropped yesterday. Very strange schedule. Our first 8 conference games take place over 20 days. After that, the league settles back into the recently standard Th/Sat format (with only 1 game the week you play your travel partner)
